Hi all, I have my theory and hazard awareness test on Tuesday, two questions bother me, if they turn up.
1. Where should you be positioned on the road at the end of a one way street, if turning right ?
2. Where should you ride through the water on a flooded road?
My mate had problems with these two questions, he eventually passed, on the day he took his module 1, he was talking to the examiner and the examiner told him that these are two things that cause some trouble, because and he said,
"1, If you ride down a single lane one way street and are intending to turn right, you should be positioned at the left of the road. If riding down a two lane one way street and intend on turning right, you should be positioned about a metre to the right of the dividing line.
2, If riding through water, you should go through slowly in 2nd or 3rd, close to the highest point of the road, even if its close to the white line".
Can anyone tell me if that's true or rubbish? ____________________ I've nothing against my left leg.

you position yourself at the right when turning right on a one way road.
With the second question it is hard to know what they want to hear. But it is multiple choice, and just pick the least stupid answer.
Theory is a piece of piss for anyone who has done their research, you don't have to get them all right, just enough.
Good luck |

Why would you position yourself at the end to turn right? That will allow the noddy to pull in beside you who is also turning right, because they will.
As for the metre. Aim for the first gap in the paintwork. That will have you in the correct position when turning right. |
^^^ This. It is not safe at all to be left when turning right, when turning right from a one-way street, drive as close as you can to the right-hand side. This is the correct and the safest answer too.
About the flooded road yes, If riding through water, you should go through slowly in 2nd or 3rd, close to the highest point of the road, even if its close to the white line.
Having said that in real world and because most roads have a symmetric camber that means the opposite traffic will do the same. Except cars need more space so they will get in your lane. Means you need to be prepared to stop and let them go or to go in the deep, which is better than frontal encounter. That happens a lot IME. Stupid morons avoiding one inch puddle and getting in my lane all the time. ____________________ Adrian Monk: Unless I'm wrong, which, you know, I'm not...

Pissed off, well and truly, went in for the test, worked my way through all the questions without any hestitancy and on to the hazard awareness clips, I did as was suggested, "count to 1" before clicking each time, I was taking my time nice and easy, then I had 5 clips in a row, showing on the screen that I had scored nil, I was spitting feathers, I had gone through the clips counting to 1 before clicking again and was hit with 5 errors, this spoiled my scoring, but I'd scored 40 in the 9 clips that were counted.
Fed up beyond belief. Is it any wonder so many bike riders and car drivers don't bother taking any tests at all or don't bother if they failed the first one. ____________________ I've nothing against my left leg.

It is worth while getting a copy of the DVSA cd rom disc to practice on for next time.
You then get used to where they want you to click, as opposed to where most of us think you should click.
The hazard perception test is pretty much a load of bollards but, unfortunately it's just one of those hurdles we have to jump through nowadays.
Better luck next time. ____________________ There ain't no devil, there's just god when he's drunk.
