looks more like military to me than cops Sad

not sure I like the idea of them upping the guns on the streets in this way
and they were saying expect to see armed boats on the Thames
looks like were getting closer to the US model of modern policing

1 x biker death per day from traffic collisions.
0 x biker deaths per day from The Terrorists.
So, why no high-vis?

Sad to say but that's what we need them for.

There's a very real chance that some ones going to try to open an Allans snackbar franchise in the UK, that's going to need different responses than an armed robber who would rather do 10 years than get killed.

It makes sense for some armed plod to be on bikes as they stand a good chance of being able to get places quicker than their mates in cars with flashy lights.

Whether armed plod being faster to respond will be of any benefit when Alan opens a snackbar in London is debatable.

I reckon we're safe for now as ISIS threatened Putin personally and have been saying that Russia is their next target can only end well. Laughing

personally I see it as a slippery slope
the MSM are all over this and saying in general its a good thing
and joe publik seems to agree as its "whats needed mate" stop all these terrorists
problem is by the time they respond its all over bar the body count Sad

This team has been in place for years, the change is that they are increasing the numbers of armed police generally. It's very difficult to stop a terrorist as we've seen, this is mostly just to make people feel better. A terrorist with a brain will just carry out short sharp attacks in large town and flee before the police arrive.

They'll turn up after the fact and do sod all to put suicidal nutjobs off doing their thing.

Was it so hard to give the regular armed response unit a few bikes if they are so necessary?

I especially love the fact that they've dressed them to intimidate (something likely to be ineffective against those they are supposed to stand against).

If I'm honest, seeing them running at me, I would probably think they were angst ridden teens on a Columbine inspired spree. They don't look anything like a reassuring presence.

In answer to a prior question, no. You don't deserve parole.

If you need these guys around to stop you shitting yourself whenever you walk out of the door, there's something deeply wrong. Personally, I'm not so paranoid.

We have armed response units already. If they need a few more numbers, so be it. There's no real sense in dressing them up like the wannabe IRA and parading them around without cause though. Their visible presence is more likely to intimidate and increase paranoia.

Regular ARVs are just 2 or 3 officers, these will be larger teams. ARVs are intended for individuals not 20 terrorists on a rampage. The heavy weaponry (full auto) seen as a requirement after the massive failures in Mumbai.

The special gear is probably kept stowed unless actually required. The rest of the time they probably just use normal ARV gear.

None of that stops them from adapting regular AR units (including their training and equipment), and increasing their numbers. In effect, you're saying the regular AR unitss are not fit for purpose, so they need adapting anyway.
