What's wrong with not moving over?

Is it because they're not showing reasonable consideration for other persons using the road?

If it got through it would be another law that the majority ignore with no-one to enforce it.

Precisely. There's also the fact that it might not be the best or most appropriate action to pull right into the near or offside - surely there's a judgement thing to all this based on the specific circumstances?

I have to say, in my experience there's the odd arsehole who doesn't shift for an ambulance, or who takes advantage to nip through behind them, but most people react to the presence of an emergency vehicle in the most appropriate way at the time.

In terms of it being to allow a space for motorbikes to filter when the traffic is slow-moving - what effect would this have on the slow-moving traffic? What if someone needed to change lanes for whatever reason? What would stop some dickhead from just deciding to drive his car down the middle (if there's room for an ambulance there's room for a car). Have you actually thought any of this through at all?

I love the assumption that they can take their eyes off their phones while they are in slow moving traffic long
enough to spot us filtering in the first place.. Good luck with that, for all your qualifications you seem to have missed
the apparent introduction of a new rule for motorists.

1st gear = Time to check the phone.
The attitude seems to be "I can't go anywhere for a little bit, so I'll stop looking at my surroundings
until I can move again."

This is already illegal and largely unpunished, so giving them something else to completely ignore seems pretty pointless to me.

I've noticed over the last 34 years that more cars move out of my way than ever before. In fact some go so berserk that they end up clipping kerbs, I spend all my time saying 'Ta' as I go past. I think it has really started being like that since DAS came out in the 90s.

Christ Tony, at least come back on to defend your petition to spammed us with!

I have to say I really don't see the problem. A decent amount of road users fall over themselves to let motorcycles past. Why meddle with it?

But surely you agree that anyone who doesn't deserves a criminal record, right? Those victims aren't going to surcharge themselves.

All the petition will do is highlight the fact that lane splitting can be dangerous, and you know what, they'll just ban it.

At the moment the dozy drivers drivers help keep you aware as a biker and meaning most sensible bikers will ride slowly and safely between the cars able to stop with just the rear brake, and even if you still collide you are going slow and will minimise any damage to man or machine. If there is a large gap the 2 wheeled lunatic fringe will go barrelling through at silly speed and if a car does change lanes will.....well you know.

Even that aside, why should drivers allow us through? Are we somehow entitled? You get the odd areshole, but most folk are decent, keep the status quo for me.

Perhaps a better petition is for more advertising public awareness, where is this generations "think once, think twice, think bike!

I never explained the context, I meant in the way the OP wanted it mandatory for all drivers to line up and allow us free passage. The current level of consideration is fine.

But thanks for finding the one little neg thing in my first post and contradicting it, oh and thanks for the welcome. Wink

You didn't ask to be welcomed. You made no attempt to say hello. You just started spouting.

I don't care really, I would like the freedom to block bikes when I'm driving a car, if I don't like the cut of their jib I spose.

Ah, that'll be [url=https://www.mumsnet.com/]www.delicateflowerchatforums.com[/url you'll be after then.

is that in your favourites? Mumsnet I mean, probably the area where they ask all the kinky questions?

Delicate flower, PMSL did you miss the smiley?

You guys need to lighten up a bit, aren't you getting enough?

Arry, how many posts do I need to move from 'spouting' to 'responding to the opening post with my opinion' like you guys?

No one picked up my point about advertising to educate drivers, was it a bad suggestion?

Would have only taken one. It goes something like 'Hi I'm Delicate Flower - I've joined today because I seek acceptance in the motorcycling world. Here's my bike. I so hope you will welcome me'.

You didn't ask for a welcome; you didn't get one. Not many people check the post count or join date of users when replying to them just in case they upset a noob's feelings.

Deliciously ironic from the one bawwing about now being welcomed.....
