 |
|
Hi, we felt that riding in the rain, drizzle, traffic spray, salt spray compromised vision to such an extent we are developing an electric wiper for all Full Face and Flip Face visors. The prototype is coming in November please take a look at www.rainpal.co.uk and let us know your views or our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/rainpalwiper |

I did let Adam know my views on his Facebook page, but they quickly disappeared and now I can't post there again. Surely some mistake?
To be fair, Adam didn't say in which November he'd yet again fail to show any evidence of a physical product.
The actual fuck? Now he's claiming it'll have a jet wash as well as a wiper? Surely he just be trollin' us? ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

i got banned for asking whether he had a patent to prevent it being ripped off by others.
perhaps that's because there is no patent. the previous one was terminated by the patent office, and the current one has no hope of getting granted according to the patent office.
well done rainpal, you managed to completely cock it all up in spectacular fashion ____________________ Past - 1988 honda revere 600, 1996 kawasaki gpz500s, 1999 Yamaha R6

For instance, the rate at which rain hits your visor, can be quite high when travelling at just 50mph. The speed at which the wiper would need to make a sweep would be very fast and I am doubting that this could be done reliably enough for the rate of sweeps needed to keep the visor even relatively clear. I can imagine it would be best suited to just slow riding around town in some light drizzle. This would account for about 3-4 hours of my riding per year. I can make do with a finger wipe. So, for that reason, I'm out. |
The device fails before its begun on so many counts its ridiculous. Motor speeds ad reliabilities would be the last thing to be a concern.
For a motorbike visor, as has bee suggested a Fishing-Boat 'clear-view' spnning window is a far better model to start from than a comon car widscreen wiper. Less moving parts for a start..
But, as a 'bolt on one size fits all accessory' to try and attatch to 'any' crash hat? Err yeah... I wear a flip... what happens when I try and flip the chin piece? Is it going to keep the back of my kneck clear, or will it just fall off altogether?
Next; visor curvature; oscilating about a axix perpedicular to the direction of travel... a car windscreen, teds to be reletvely 'flat' the wiper traveling accross the plane of the glass without much for and aft deviatation, and what there is reasonably easily accomodated by the length of sprung loaded wiper arm...
My crash hat s abot 12" from side to side, the visor curving around it in almost 180 degree arc... a wiper swiging fro side to sde might stand some chace of knocking the rain drops off 1/2" in the middle, but that wiper arm is't gog to let it get roud the sides very well!
Common ludy sense says its swingng the wrong way, and it would be better oilating about a vertical axis, the blade trascribing a arc that follows the fucking curce of the visor!
This begs the mechanism being placed in the shell or chin piece of the hat, making it something that might be iterated into te constrction of a crash hat at orignal manufacture, but not so readily something you could wack on with prit pads and elastic bands!
But eve then; every crash hat I have had snce about 1991, has had a bi-curve visor, curving from chin to brow as well as fro eye to eye.. its a segment of a ball, about as far from flat as you can get, it would still need some inginuity to make a wiper blade follow the curves ad actually wipe.....
And THEN if that was sorted... car wndscreens tend to be glass... ore laminated safety glass... which doesn't 'scratch' very easily.
Motorbike visors tend to be made of lexan plastic, which does tend to scratch rather easily....
I tend to try NOT to wipe my visor, even with the back of my glove, for that reason, and an rather careful when cleaning it, what I rub over it, after removing as much grit that could score it with soap and running water!
Great idea. lets design a device to scratch motorbike visors to buggery, so they refract in low sun and you cant see fuck all even in good day-light.... fantastic aid to safety that!
So... how do you get around that one? Ad the 'problems' you make or find, start to mount up to more than the one almost 'non-problem' you are trying to solve!
But hey, lets NOT thnik this through from even first priciples; lets leap n the middle with a juvanile brain wave, and rather than like my eight year old asking me "Why don't you have a windscreen wiper on that, like on the car?" telling every one that they must be stupid for never thinking of it, and expecting to be applauded for the inspiration, AND given money to find out why its not such a wonderful idea as an 8 year old might think, let alone a purported grow up!
Most interesting and potentially practicable 'clear-view' visor mechanism I have see suggested over the long years I have seen such gadgets come and go, was actually an electronic 'ultrasonic' visor..... used the same technology as electrostatic audio speakers, two conductive plates seperated by free space, that when charged with an electric voltage attract or repel each other, and if drive by a appropriate high frequency alternating current b convinced osilate and to emit an audible 'tone'.... so, if you make a double glazed visor, and charge inner and outer skins with A electric, you can make them shake water off....
ISTR the prototype showed some promice, but t wasn't really practicable, and simple high-surface-tension water-replant treatments were more effective...
Ie; cleaning the visor wth washing up liquid ad using a appropriate silicon polish on it from time to time!
And turning your head across the air-stream from time to time to let the wind blow rain away rather than hold it on the visor....
Sort of things, that bikers who actually ride in countries where we get a lot of rain, and encounter the 'problem' more often have learned to do as course over a very long time, since the advent of full face crash helmets and the transistorised ignition!!!! ____________________ My Webby'Tef's-tQ, loads of stuff about my bikes, my Land-Rovers, and the stuff I do with them!

Every time I put my helmet on I think, "I wish this was heavier, and rattlier, and noisier. I wish the visor had the weight of a motor and some batteries on it to stop it from staying open. I wish that for the 95% of the time that I'm riding and it isn't raining that I had some cheap little wiper blade flapping around in the wind. And I wish that for the other 5% of the time, I had a thin piece of rubber smearing road-muck over my visor while a system of motors and gear deafens me with its mechanical whine."
And now it looks like my every wish has come true |

Another thought WTF is the washer bottle going to go?
Or will we have a Urinary catheterisation to squirt fluid to clear the smeared mess you always get when driving in the rain.... ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |
