Okay, I'm going to go out and buy another electronic cat scarer, but the problem I've got is that because the cats are shitting at the end of the front garden next to the fence, the device has to be pointed toward the fence, and it gets triggered every time someone walks past (the fence is quite low) on the street. Result: annoyance to other animals and batteries going flat.

It's for my dad's house, and if I don't do someting very shortly he is going to start poisoning the cats with antifreeze - if he hasn't done so already, he's already started getting nasty. All I can do is try to find an effective cat scarer.

I need something that works NOW.

Anything you do will have the same battery issue, short of waiting nearby with a water gun!

Glad my cats an indoor cat for exactly this reason.

Cats don't like lemons or rosemary. Mix some rosemary with water and spray in where the cats go and near the edges of the fence.

A friend of mine has some kind of wired-in scarers on her fence. They work- but I can also hear them. If he still has a decent range of hearing, it's going to ruin sitting in the garden.

I forgot to mention, he hates dogs too.
I did find something useful on Argos though; there's a solar powered unit, the Zonar; I don't know if it's any good but it might be an option.

I'm going to take a look at wired cat scarers, that's something I hadn't thought of - thanks Robby.

We found all deterrents pretty much useless after a few days. Thankfully, our issue is fenced back garden.

Electric fencing has stopped all cat issues all together.

I've battled with cats for years over shitting rights. In the end, all deterrents only work to a degree. If there are too many ignorant cat owners who shut them out of the house all night, it can be difficult to put them all off.

Infra red Water deterrents are the most effective, but not practical for you.

I've got a fox which uses my garden now, this is the lesser of 2 evils and seems to put the cats off.

I sometimes come out to go to work and there's a fox trapped in my garden. All the local cats still use my garden as their preferred toilet Sad

My old boss has an electric fence protecting his vegetable patch from foxes of all things. I may electrify my
strawberry patch next year after this years savaging of my crop by a gang of delinquent starlings and a blackbird
with a personality defect.

Sounds like he's a total bell-end.

Have you considered locking him in the house and not letting him out until he learns how to behave like a civilised human being?

Concrete over the garden, they don't like shitting on concrete.

Well cats are cnuts as far as their shitting habits go.
I have grass front and back and some cnut's cat/s likes to take a dump in the same bit whenever it/they can. (I suspect the prime candidate is the Ginger Bastirt with only one front leg. It obviously can't dig hole for peanuts so I rest my case m' lud.)

I tried the sprinkly stuff but it washed off at the next rain shower.

I had read about 'sonic' devices so invested in two for a laph.

The fecking things work. They work because if the batteries are good then no poo on grass. If the are not in the correct position or batteries flat then poo on garden within a couple of days. Smile

OP
You need to aim the sonic things to an area that has no 'traffic' except where cats move into the 'zone'. That saves the batteries. Mine run for a few months on four AAs each.
Mine are aimed where cats can enter the gardens and the noise pisses them off.

I find a great many things and people frustrating but that doesn't make me go out and give them with a poison that causes a slow and painful death from kidney failure over the course of a week.

That is a cunts game and can't be blamed on anyone other than the person who did it.

If someone is caught deliberately poisoning animals with antifreeze, they can and ought to be jailed for it.

In the grand scheme of things, cats shitting in your garden is firmly on the "first world problems" list.

Until your own pets end up with illnesses transferred by the laziness of said cat owners who don't keep on top of their healthcare?

Presume you'll work on mine for free if he ends up unwell because of it?

Just buy a load of this and spread it all over the place. It eventually washes away but keep putting it down. Trust me the little puddy tats hate this shit up their noses and learn to crap elsewhere.
