Just bought a 2nd hand Asus S200E from ebay.. Nippy little machine, impressed with it. But is there anything I should look out for in terms of nasties that could be on the laptop. Apart from scanning with normal anti virus? Just incase I've inherited someone's porn stash...

Also noticed that a screw is missing and most are marked so the back cover has definetley been off. Probably for an SSD or something... ( I shall probably upgrade to one)

Anyone got suggestions for a decent SSD? Keeping an eye on hotdealsuk to see if a decent one turns up.. looking for around 480gb ish. Very Happy

Cheers!

Moo.

I'd format it and do a clean install. Someone I work with sold a laptop to a colleague (for his kid) and left porn on it Laughing

I have an S200E and I also swapped out the drive for an SSD - to save you 30 mins of head scratching, learn from my experience (if you're not cloning then skip the first bit):

1. Use XXClone - backup entire volume - then click cool tools - 'duplicate Vol ID' - then click 'make bootable' and select all three checkboxes (write MBR, Write boot sector, Write \boot\BCD) and click start.

2. Once finished, install the new SSD and start the machine - this is when the BIOS screen appears and the SSD isn't listed as a boot device - this is _not_ because Asus are stopping you upgrading the machine - it's simply the secure boot kicking in - what you need to do is select the 'boot' tab (using left/right keys) and make sure 'Launch CSM' is enabled - then select the 'security' tab and make sure secure boot control is disabled. Save and exit the BIOS settings and restart the machine - boom, the SSD boots into Windows where you left off (assuming you cloned of course, else you can now install your OS of choice)

Agreed, and do a full format, not the lite version!

As for SSDs, I generally go for Crucial stuff, but its been a year or so since I bought one. 256gb SSDs are buttons now really.

I'd only recommend doing this if you are installing an OS older than 8 on there tbh.

No sense in turning off UEFI and Secure Boot if you are running 8-10.

Ordered a Crucial MX300 off Amazon, via flubit for £55 275gb.

I'll go the route of a fresh install on the SSD Very Happy
