Hi all.
My son has done something to his bike and I just wanted to check with you guys that there is going to be no adverse repercussions. Worrying mum and all that. I’ve included a couple of pics of his bike as I don’t know if the type of exhaust he has will make a difference to any replies.

I don’t know the technical terms. He took something out of the exhaust (of his GT125r) that looked like a metal funnel. And when he rode off, loads of white stringy fabric stuff blew out all over the road. The bike appears to be working fine and the only difference is the sound. I wouldn’t say it’s any louder – but has gone from sounding like an angry wasp to something a bit deeper – more growly.

Just want to check that nothing is going to explode/conk out and that what’s he’s done is legal. Can’t help feeling that if something was in the exhaust, it’s supposed to be in there!

Thank you.

Probably just the baffle, wouldn't worry, just keep hold of it.

Sounds like he's removed the baffle and the white stringy stuff sounds like the packing is starting to come out of the can.

Yeah, removed the baffle. Make sure he keeps it for MOT time. Not going to damage the bike or anything. Standard practice for yoof to want their car/bike to sound meaty.

Don't worry about it.

Nice eyes btw. Very Happy

Eh?
Are you talking about the advertisement dog on Photobucket?

I just noticed Saraya works in Mental Health though, quite appropriate she ended up here.
Do you think we could get her to do something about BodyGuard? (I would have suggested Ste, but I fear there is no help there) Very Happy

Baffle

That’s the thing. I had ‘muffle’ in my head so wasn’t far off.

I still have it here. Not the stringy stuff though – so hope that’s not needed for MOT!

Ha. Thanks. They’re the exact same colour as the green algae that occasionally appears on the fish tank if I leave a courgette in there too long for the catfish. Mr. Green

Very Happy I think Ste may love me soon. Have a 12 week old kitten. Will post a pic for him if the crazy nutter ever sits still for long enough. No willy though! Laughing

Thanks all. It's good to know that nothing is going to explode. Very Happy

Thought this was going to be another troll thread reading the first bit of the post. It's not legal but no one cares. It's arguably safer cos 'loud pipes save lives' Laughing

It's no different from those that have baked bean can sized exhaust on their ford fiesta's - it's a 125, it's not going to harm anyone, don't spoil his fun.

Safe, yes. legal, probably not.

The most important question is 'Will it increase the power? to which the answer is 'No, infact you'll probably find the opposite.'

I'll just leave this here for your 'son'

So the Loon took the Muffle out his zorst and Baffled his Mum. Tut Tut

Why is he not on BCF? Sounds (no pun) like he's requisite material for the forum.

Thanks Nobby. That may be the winning argument in persuading him to put it back.

I confess to being quite surprised as to how much of the stuff was in there. Or even that there was stuff in there. I thought an exhaust was just a pipe. Makes me wonder what I have stuffed up my own exhaust. Shocked (I’m trying to learn about bikes and how they work, but haven’t got to the exhaust section yet.) Embarassed

I’m not encouraging that. He’s dyslexic AND uses txt spk. Will make your eyes bleed. Shocked Also, this is mummy’s hang out. I wouldn’t turn up at his favourite pub. Laughing
Besides, although you guys have been wonderfully patient with my newbie questions – I think you’d be less patient with a gobby, cocky youngster and might tear him a new one. Laughing

Oh a lot of people would at the sign of cocky txt speak, but that's the BCF equivalent of a CBT (initiation).

Trial by fire, they either get on board or fall off and quit. Twisted Evil (...again with the exception of BodyGuard)

Any road up, altering an exhaust is usually not legal, but if it's not very noisy he'll probably get off with it, like the rest of us.

Modifying an exhaust to make it louder is technically a C&U offence (see threads passim) but he's vanishingly unlikely to get tugged on a 125.

If he does, I'd suggest that his recollection be that it was like that when he bought it, because the offence is in altering it, active voice. Other than that, admit to and deny nothing, let them make their case.

Is it weird that I want to brush your fringe?

Ha! In desperate need of haircut. Turning into a yeti. Very Happy
I now realise what’s happening. If I open my link with IE, I can only see son’s bike.
But opening link with Chrome shows all pics. I wondered what was happening. Laughing

Edited to add - Typical that my lower uni module scores are on there. I got a distinction for the next module! Very Happy
