Does anyone know? My new bike is restricted (throttle) but I don't have document that says so, do I need to have this document?

Or you could just ask the insurance company?

Devitt didn't. Might be worth getting one if you can, take it to a stealership and get them to check it next time it's in for a service (or whatever) in case you get pulled over. No legal requirement to have one (of course) but I can imagine it would save some headache...

Do they even know that you have an A2 license? Many insurers only distinguish between "provisional" or "full". I would urge you not to initiate a conversation with them about it though.

Wicked quotes do... or should i say Ramasis! They knew I was on an A2 licence as I have been with them since I passed my test and they required me to send in a copy of my driving licence card front and back. When I got my Duke and changed over the insurance Wicked made it a long drawn out process as I was never supplied with a restrictor certificate. It took numerous calls and eventhough they contacted the dealer which i bought the bike from (they fitted the restrictor) they still needed to phone the underwriters to make sure this was okay.

TLDR: some do. Rolling Eyes

The certificates aren't really proof of much, if I remember rightly they just have to be fitted by a "competent" person.

"Have" to? For what purpose?

Guessing the legislation hasn't changed, and by competent I meant someone knows how to do it.

So, why would you "have to" have a restrictor fitted by a "competent" person?

I had to supply a certificate, which I had because the restrictor got thrown in as part of the battering for the bike.

What would make somebody competent? I have pieces of paper that say I can do mechanical stuff. I could fit the restrictor to an ER6 using only my teeth, but I've never fit the inlet/exhaust type restrictor.

I fitted my restrictor myself in the inlets (all four) and sent the paperwork to my insurer who rejected it as it hadn't been fitted by a garage, I pointed out that the legislation didn't say who had to fit it, they pointed out it was an underwriter requirement.

local garage who'd done something for me shortly after and so knew it was there signed the restrictor paper and stamped it
