Hi guys I need a little help I've just bought a tdr 125.
And wow am I disappointed from my memories lol.
Anyway its in immaculate condition it's just had the barrel and head replaced by the previous owners. Stamped 4fu00 I have the original and that has the same code on it. But he bought a ebay 25 quid piston lol so I'll be replacing that unless any of you guys think that it's OK.
But my main concern is that it won't go 55mph and above 6k rpm
I can remember my old one years ago doing around 80 85 mph and the rpm s going up to and a little more than 11k.
So that's where I'm at. I can here the power valve doing its cycle when turning on the ignition. And I've also bought a full ginneli exhaust system. As I read that they are heavily restricted in them.
Could someone tell me how to go about to unleash a little more oomph.
Or de ristrict lol . Thanks |

Is the powervalve operational or did the 2007 not come with the servo and cables?
I presume you know already, but just in case, it's the round housing on the side of the barrel. Should have 2 cables going to a servo motor under the tank.
If fitted and operational, it should cycle (3 noises of an electric motor) as you turn the key on. If connected and it's not turning, this is likely to be the culprit, it could be jammed shut. Restricted ones were normally pegged closed, with no cables attached. Take the round cover off and see if it can turn. If it has cables, check they are on the right way around, they are marked 1 and 2 at each end (servo and PV housing) On my TZR250, they actually cross over between the servo and the Powervalve, so many people fit them the wrong way around when they've buggered about changing the barrel/piston etc.
Check carb, especially main jet for blockages, whilst the carb is off, check the reed petals are intact and not cracked or had the corners nibbled off.
You could try decoking the pipe, remove it, carefully bung one end with a potato/rubber glove over it or whatever, stand upright and pour in caustic soda. Leave overnight then drain and bash about a bit to clear any loose soot.
Edit - tech me to not read to the end. So the PV is cycling, pop the cover off and see if the PV arm lines up. At rest it should almost line up with a hole in the case behind the u shaped peg. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

OK guy's I'm going to rebuild it as it's supposed to have a flat top piston in..
And the numpty has put a domed one in so I think the squish been out isn't helping .
I'm ordering the new parts from pjme what's your opinion on that. Or do you think the domed piston will be OK ? |

my 93 was like that.
took it to a yamaha dealer and got it derestricted. I think they set the YPVS up properly so it opened up at 60ish. Otherwise it just ran out of puff.
other stuff done to it was:
to stop it redlining everywhere I changed the gearing (+1 gearbox sprocket, -3 rear wheel sprocket)
full arrow exhaust
boyesen fibre reeds
#330 main jet
did 85mph at 10krpm after those mods.
make sure your new exhaust isn't restricted in any way

Are these the same engines as the TZR125? I run 330 mains on my race (premixed) TZR250, which is essentially 2 X 125 motors.
Standard is 230, to run 330 you have the inner "trumpet" removed from the air filter housing.
Can I ask if you modified the air filter? Just wondering for carb compatibility. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Yeah it lines up bang on the hole. So is that right ?it goes to the hole after its cycle and is sat there before. It's flush up the exhaust port and I tried to flip it 180 degrees and it made it a little worse.
So thar when I whipped the exhaust of and found it was already in correctly |

That's right yes. On my File tuned motor, we set it slightly off the hole, but for road use, you have it right.
It is common for people to put the cables on back to front after a rebuild as on some models the cables actually cross over between the servo and pulley, people don't think this is correct, so put them on straight through. The pulley and servo should have markings for 1 or 2 at each end.
Even with the aftermarket pipe, I'd put the carb back to standard main jet though and start from there. If anything, it will run a little lean with the pipe, but should rev out. Not sure what your carb is like, but on my TZR there's a little hose which connects 2 ports from top to bottom of the carb. It's called the powerjet or similar, but they run like crap if you forget to reconnect this. ____________________ TZR250 2MA road, TZR250 1KT road, TZR250 2MA race, TDR250, YZF-750R Boost colours.

Got to say this will make me question recent rebuild adverts a bit more now. Rebuilt by whom and using what parts |
