Posted: 14:15 - 26 Aug 2016 Post subject: A SHOUT OUT to all the riders in the UK! please come inside |
 |
|
Dear Beloved BCF Riders,
I've been a rider for almost 12 years, and wouldn't want to live in a world where I cannot ride my two wheeler, whether its my bicycle or motorbike, and wouldn't want to ride anything other than them. I've covered countless miles and crossed continents as a rider, heck I even made riding an untouched privilege before proposing to my wife.
From a career prospective, I am a computer scientist and a school teacher. A bunch of us scientists are working on their projects and I wanted my project to address only one thing, the safety and well being of a two wheeler.
With the help of my university (QMUL),
I am currently working on an interactive design project to bring smart technologies, and to have it save your life, one day. To me if the system we are working on can save just 1 rider's life, this is a success.
I am also here to ask you to help me do one small favor, I am asking you to help me fill out a small survey that would take less than ten minutes to complete.
Your responses will help guide me into building a very smart system that will do what you guys think it should do, and without your responses I have no guidance. Your responses mean so much!
The UK has the weirdest hybrid system for cycling and motorcycling that I've ever seen in the 71 countries that I've been to, and the only way I can build such a system is to ask riders such as your selves, who know the inside outs of UK's roads and driving/riding culture.
Note: I am also throwing 5 vouchers totaling 50 pounds to five winners (can be redeemed at thousands of stores) just to thank you for your time. I will use random.org to shuffle all entry numbers and send the winners emails about their win and post them by mail at the soonest chance! and if you want, I can also donate your winnings to any charity of any cause, or to have send them to BCF as a contribution
Forums such as TheRevCounter and LGFSS have showed amazing support, and some users have advised me to come here as BCF is one of the largest (if not the largest) forum for UK bikers. I thank you inadvance once again for participating.

You've gone about this completely the wrong way, and therefore you'll get jack all from me.
If you had have joined the forum and contributed normally to it before posting this nonsense, and also didn't use a ridiculous massive font, I might have considered otherwise, but as it is, it's a from me.
Now, join in the forum in a normal respectful way, or leave. The choice is yours. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Below is a post from another board, I copied it here, alot of people were asking me questions of who I am and what I do, and what do I get out of it all. In my survey I even placed my real life details, as it is a requirement by our university policy to inform you who I am, and how my department and myself can be contacted. I had people phone me swearing at me, and other lovely people supporting me, and It is a risk as a surveyor that I have to take, but I thank you all for your kind words.
Some extra information
================
Why am I doing this field survey? It's part of our postgraduate qualitative research, trust me when I tell you that we computer scientists are the laziest, and many of us prefer being lonely coding python in front of a debugger for long countless hours. I have to do this research so that my supervisor puts a smile on his face and tells me to commence working on my project, designing intelligent ubiquitous systems using the latest lab equipment.
What about these vouchers? They were given to me by my sister, 50 pound worth, it is to be used at thousands of shops, and I am broke as hell but it is all I have to offer. Some of my postgraduate fellows dished out thousands of pounds to support his research, I am a broke middle aged man, and willing to throw a box of Lindt chocolates I bought for my ex gf in as well. There has to be something for people participating in my survey, its the least I could do, to thank them for their time.
I don't need your bank account, I can ask the voucher company to provide me with a digital one that I can email to you, or I can ask you if I could post it to you through the mail. I repeat, I don't need your card number or bank details.
I am sorry if anybody got offended, I get nothing from this research, all I get is a chance to build a system that I have envisioned for 5 years with the help of my university, I believe this system will help cyclists and motorcyclists avoid dangerous hazards, and if it means that I will save one person's life, the project is a success in my eyes.
I apologize once more if I offended you. English is not my mother tongue but I am proud to be a speaker of this wonderful language. |

Mary Jay, please inform me what sort of contribution are you willing to see? The only way I can discuss a matter such as this with the BCF community is to directly come in touch with its members.
Mary Jay, I was also informed on another forum (MCN) that some BCF members can be merciless, I know the risk I have to take. You can throw any remark at me, for the past two days I've had people call me threatening my life, some saying that I should get the hell out of this country, and even my supervisor was informed by writing that us researchers are not welcome on certain message boards.
What do you expect me to do? can I contribute financially to BCF? I can launch a fund raising across the CS department at my university to help BCF if that makes you happy? |

I meant join in, talk about bikes, post stuff. Not financially, but socially. Charity collectors who turn up on my doorstep get a short shrift, but if a friend asked me to help them with a charity I'd consider it.
I'd also like it if you got my name right. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade
