 |
|
Advert
So there's a Suzuki SV650 S that's come up at a local-ish dealer for an appealing price, I sent an inquiry to them to ask the cost of a A2 restriction kit and their response was that they'd include it in the price of the sale, a dream response considering labour figures can run high for such a job.
Problem however is insurance. At best I'd have to wait fifteen days until pay day to cough up the £40 for an adjutment plus whatever else they invent on top or at worst wait until renewal in three months time meaning the bike being stored outside for that time. I have tried to phone them but ran out of credit before I even got through so cannot get an accurate figure in regards to what fee's would occur. Also the dreaded gurantee of they would swap the policy over from a 125cc has not been confirmed.
So do I grab a bargain, if the bike is that, while I can and at worst leave it sitting outside for three months or do I just leave it alone and go shopping come renewal time?
Personally I'm all like "could crash tomorrow and have no NCB" and other is like "yeah but free restriction go for it numpty well race bike m8". ____________________ The do it all, T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶r̶o̶k̶e̶n̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶,̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶i̶g̶ ̶l̶u̶m̶p̶,̶ ̶C̶h̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶N̶o̶o̶d̶l̶e̶ |

Oh come on my bike choice cannot be that bad, surely? I thought I'd finally found a tempting offer.
First the GS 500 then the GN 250 then the YBR 125.
Is the S model, if that makes any difference. Is from a stealer. Do factor in I'd been quoted a between £200-300 for a restriction kit from another sealer for an SV before. Also prices isn't all that different from what I'm seeing elsewhere on eBay, gumtree and autotrader, some are more some are less. ____________________ The do it all, T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶r̶o̶k̶e̶n̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶,̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶i̶g̶ ̶l̶u̶m̶p̶,̶ ̶C̶h̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶N̶o̶o̶d̶l̶e̶ |

So I popped down to the dealer for a quick look and sit on the SV and this particular model aside found that it's very leany forward, coming from a bolt upright 125 I just found that it didn't instantly feel homely and meanwhile I'm sure I could get used to it there wasn't really any spark about the bike. It ad probably do the job I wanted but I've already got a bike that doesn't set my world alight and works when I want it to (somewhat) so don't really feel the need to spend that kind of money just to get power, I'd want to like what I'm buying rather than to put up with it.
I quickly grew bored of looking over the SV and instead turned my attention to (Bandit 600) which in truth I didn't really want to get of. Sitting on it felt right at home and everything's where you'd expect it and or where I'm used to. A little bigger and harder to get the leg over than the SV (because tight jeans) but was more relaxing rather than being balls deep in the fuel tank even standing still, both easy to flat foot but I'm on the tall-er side anyway. Looks a lot more security friendly with sticking a chain through the rear wheel and passenger footpeg hanger and then an unmovable object so looks like it would work better as a commuter.
Bandit looked well looked after and couldn't really spot any damage or rust. I only had a quick look at the outside rather than a full on inspection of everything though. One thing I did noticed on both the SV and the bandit (the SV more so quite badly) had damage to the radiator as in if you look at this picture the black lines that wave up and down had been torn and had damage to them, on the SV it was like someone had got a hook and grabbed and ripped part of them in a side-wards motion. I'm going to safely assume that's not normal wear and tear? Wasn't so bad on the Bandit with only a couple with small bits of damage, no pictures, to busy being stood over and watched. I was only having a quick look and not buying so didn't feel the need to point it out.
But yeah, lesson learnt from today is that the Bandit 600 feels like a at home bike. So I'm guessing that ones over-priced also? Opinions?
What's the service costs of these things.. more so the Bandit at this point. I got told £100 per year which seems low as fudge. I didn't catch if that was just the labour or all in but they did say a service for a 125 is about £70 which is what I pay all in elsewhere so someone clear that up?
Bandit. ____________________ The do it all, T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶r̶o̶k̶e̶n̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶,̶ ̶T̶h̶e̶ ̶b̶i̶g̶ ̶l̶u̶m̶p̶,̶ ̶C̶h̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶N̶o̶o̶d̶l̶e̶ |

Take a Bandit for a test ride before you buy one. It sounds like you have an urban-ish commute, and a top heavy Bandit isn't going to be much fun (I wouldn't have one for this reason).
SV's and Bandit's are both really really common, you can be picky and not pay stupid money for one Also I believe the naked SV has a more upright riding position. |
