Looks good, but someone cleverer will let us know if it's legit or not.

But you are also a total idiot who wants the internet to be, in effect, owned by mega-corps.

How the fuck is the EU going to incorporate bio-metrics into every net connected device?

Contrary to popular opinion, it's BAD. The EU very seriously want to introduce a biometrics system to prevent anonymous use of the internet and "net neutrality" is the thin end of the wedge. ways would be found around it of course, but it would not be long before biometrics were integrated into phones and tablets, and in the longer term into laptops and possibly even PC's. Once that happens most people will accept it as the norm, so I really sincerely hope it doesn't get to that stage, but the EU is very keen in it and it's Barack Obama's last gift to them before he stands down from office. So yeah, I'm quite concerned by this development.

I... what? Th... that's not even close to what net neutrality is. Like, I... what?

Net neutrality in a sentence is an internet service provider has to provide all internet traffic at the same speed, regardless of what website it's from. It means no corporation can pay an internet service provider to make their website transmit to users faster than their competitors.

Without Net Neutrality rulings, as an example the Daily Mail could pay Virgin Media in exchange for Virgin agreeing to deliberately make competing newspaper websites like the Telegraph, The Sun, etc load slower on their customer's connections. Or Netflix could pay BT money to make Amazon Prime videos load slower.

It works in the customer's favour too: without Net neutrality internet service providers would be free to offer a tiered internet arrangement. For example, they could say you pay a base price but connections to video and news sites are deliberately slowed down. If you want them to load at the same speed as your connection to other sites, they demand you buy the next tier up.

And the quick explanation is what? It's about anonynimity?

No. Simply put it's about big companies being able/forced to pay ISPs to have their traffic prioritised over other traffic. So for example, Netflix paying so that their video traffic gets a higher priority than other, competing traffic. That means companies that have market share now could use their money to kill of any competition. Little fish will die off and never become big fish. It's anti-competitive.

American version, the effect is the same:

Net neutrality is good. It's about the tubes being just pipes for data, all data is equal.

I think net neutraility is getting easily confused with the Investigatory Powers Bill AKA Snoopers Charter by a lot of people (not necessarily in this thread) - but NN isn't being mentioned much at all in general media, whereas IPB/SC does get the odd mention, occasionally.

Must admit i'm a bit bemused by ninja's post on this; but maybe i've missed something.
