Sending off your licence

Hey all, recently passed my full test after doing a DAS course back in January (3 attempts at MOD1 (twice in January before giving up for a little while), first time on MOD2) and I've got myself a SV650S...loving it, obviously.

However, I've got a dumb question. I didn't get the examiner to send my licence off for me as I wanted to get out and do some test rides ASAP.

Now I want to get that part done and dusted... It states on the back of the pass certificate that I need to send off my licence, pass cert and 'related' documents. Obviously, my CBT, theory & MOD1 are related documents but I'd rather not send them off for sentimental reasons. Pity I can't keep the pass certificate to be honest, but cest la vie.

What's the bare minimum I need to send off? I've scanned everything I have just incase of a royal mail mishap. God forbid I have to do the tests again, they were the most intense experiences in my adult life.

I just don't want to send off my licence and pass certificate and find out that's not enough and ending up with a cock-up. I've scoured the DVSA site for this info but come up empty handed.

Shame - if you'd just let the examiner send off the licence you'd have kept hold of all the other certificates. Not sure what you gained by holding onto it ... it's not like it was a valid motorcycle licence anyway!

Do you have the D1 form? It might give some better info about what you need to include.

You could have let them send off your licence and show the dealer your pass cert.

I'm sure it's as good as a provisional and cert, as how would one have got a pass cert without a provisional?

AFAIK it's just your license and pass certificate you need to send off. Your problem is that if DVLA spack it up, then you've got no record of passing. Really, you're screwed, they're notorious for not accepting copies or budging one iota.

You could pop down to the DVSA test centre with your docs and a cheery smile, and see if they'll push the button now. Probably not.

Why it's important that DVSA Derek shreds a piece of plastic (he doesn't "send it off") before he pushes the button escapes me. The plastic card is just ID now, it's not definitive.

What's definitive is https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence - have you had a look on there? Perhaps by some miracle they might have actually done it.

Cheers guys, after a little closer scrutiny on the back of the pass cert, the 'relevant' documents just relate to D1 forms if you've changed address etc.

Wish me luck! Little apprehensive now. I'll check back in when I hopefully get my shiny new photocard.

To any learning riders who happen to be reading this, just get the examiner to do it for you!
