It'll just be a low voltage connected to a relay I'd have thought. I doubt there will be any complex electronics in it. Should be pretty easy to extend the button so you have a remote on it. In the broadcast industry this kind of thing is known as a GPI or General Purpose Interface. It's just a fancy word for a remotely triggered or automated switch.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I'd be amazed if it didn't have a blipper. Can you not call previous owner?

Instead of a switch outside, could you get an electrician to wire in a keypad? So, switch indoors and waterproof keypad outside?

If it's a button inside then that'll be simple contact closure. It'd be trivial to put something together that you could trigger from outside.

I'd probably use an Arduino Yun myself, since it could be connected to your network via wifi.

have I missed where you have mentioned the make and model ?
You may find it was an option extra and you can buy the matching remote( blipper),
as said there are loads of ways to achieve what you want, but if you can source the original remote it may be easier . .

See if you can find a transmitter/receiver hz figure and buy the appropriate remote.

How about something like:

https://www.jaycar.co.uk/4-channel-wireless-remote-control-relay-with-2-key-fobs/p/LR8824

All you'd need to do is supply the board with 12vdc and rewire the existing push switch to it.

Do you know what voltage is used for the switch?

I appreciate all the suggestions but surely there's something simpler which can be done? Along the lines of the garage mate app plus a relay with BT?

Bluetooth range will be pretty poor. There are a couple of bluetooth relays on ebay some have a free app. Prices are similar to, or more expensive than, pre built fob based. Using you phone might seem like a good idea, until it's pissing it down with rain and you have to dig it out, versus pushing a fob button attached to your keys.

You could also try this as an option:
