I'm looking at one of these for my next bike, i'm a commuter who sometimes has a pillion and i want a reliable and fairely comfortable bike.

The VFR800 is nice looking but suffers from being overweight for its displacement and a little underpowered too.

The TUONO and RSV4 are also very nice and have much better performance, what you would expect from a V4.

My only issue is the cost of parts and reliability of Aprilia, They have a bad reputation although perhaps not as bad as Ducati.

Which one would you recommend as a medium distance commuter ?

Thanks.

I had a Gen 1 Tuono for a brief spell. Was a nice bike but a bit of a horse - felt quite tall for me and I'm 5'11 (not sure if they lowered the seat height for later models).

Have a quick google for reliability issues but regarding getting spare parts - hit and miss. I needed 2 oil pipes, 1 arrived straight away, the other never arrived. Gave up and bought a second hand part in the end. And yes, parts arent the cheapest, in fact some parts are ridiculous.

I sold up and went back to Jap. They look nice though!

Could you have chosen three more different bikes? Maybe if you replaced the Tuono with a Harley Fat Bob or something...?

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Very good looking, I want a V4 Sport for my next bike and the VFR800 just seems a bit tame? Don't really know of any other V4 sports contenders other than the desmosedici in my dreams

Tried a VFR1200? More power but more weight than the 800..

I know what you're saying and it makes sense but i really don't like how the VFR1200 looks compare to the 800 Neutral

The Tuono V4 has a crap turning circle and pretty wide bars, not the best for filtering through slow traffic Imo. Power wise though it's awesome and so is the noise, but fuel consumption is normally around the 30mpg mark. I've not had a problem with spares yet, longest wait was around 2 weeks and 2nd hand spares are becoming more popular on ebay etc.
Quick edit:
The standard seats on the 1000's are like wooden planks, the seat off the new v4 1100 fits the 1000 but it still leaves your pillion perched on a hard slippery seat that hurts after 20 mins or so. The VFR does sound better for your needs.

I don't know anything about the VFR but neither the Tuono or the RSV are particularly comfortable for a pillion, depending on how far you want to go etc.

I'd love an RSV4 but the whole parts / reliability thing puts me off. Up until last weekend, I had no issues with my Ducati either in a year of owning it and then the exhaust pipe just shears clean off for no apparent reason. It's in the dealer now but 10 days was quoted to me, which could be 14, etc etc.

Someone asked me would I own another R1, ZX10R, etc... I said yes. Would I own another Duke? No.

The RSV4 is a beauty but ultimately, it's gonna fuck you over at some point. Know two people with them and both have had gear boxes go on them and been completely out of action for months.

Think I need a bit of German efficiency in my life next, S1KRR or something.

You say that but me and a pal went to the alps this year, it was his S1000r that had electrical issues not my Tuono.
His ignition would not turn off, even with the key removed it kept running. He had to remove the battery every night.

Surely the RSV4 is a horrendous choice for a commuter who likes to have a pillion?
