Feel Gullible, help explaining the license

Hi. I feel extra gullible today. Sorry if this question has been posted before.

I'm 20 years old and I passed my CBT in June. I have been riding a 125cc since then on L plates. Now, I have read several sites in relation to what to do after you get your CBT. I still don't under stand. Neutral

I want to move to an A2 bike quickly. I don't want to do my theory on a 125cc. Is there a way I can do my theory and practical on an A2 bike, meaning having to skip the 125cc tests completely?

Theory applies to any bike - it's not specific to power groups like the practical tests.

You don't need to do the tests on a 125 before you can do them for A2. If you have CBT and theory, you can go and do A2 training and book A2 tests. If you then pass the tests on A2, you have an A2 licence without having to get an A1 licence on a 125 first.

So, get the theory test sorted, and look for a good training place in your area that does A2.

This.

At 19 years old you qualify for Direct Access on a restricted A2 licence. All you need to do is the one theory test, You need a current CBT and that is all. Get the A2 licence done and you can ride around on a bike restricted to 46BHP.

following on from the above, two years after doing your A2 you'll be able to do your tests again on a bike that isn't restricted to be able to ride anything

or carry on as you are

Does a restricted not automatically go to an unrestricted when you reach a certain age or is that something historical now?

so if he does his test now, at 22 his licence will be able to be upgraded to a 'full' one.

No, you must upgrade it by doing the tests on a 'bigger' bike.

it does not auto upgrade, that went bye-bye in Jan 2013

Being 25 you can do A and go straight to anything.

Problem is my mate is not that great on bikes and I feel a jump from 125 to 1000cc, because I know he will buy something stupid will be a step too far. Seems a shame they took the 33bhp option away. Worked wonders for me.

No different from the old laws in that respect. He'll hit age required and do the unrestricted test.

For every one young rider it stopped from being a muppet, it unduly restricted and hampered a good handful of others.

The current rules are a basket case, though, and the having to do test again a complete waste of time.

But I remember back when you turned up on something suitable, less than 250 and rode round the block 4 or 5 times answered a couple of quick questions and rode away with a full ride anything licence.

In my case test on a C90 at 3pm and on a z900 by 6pm Smile
