To relive my youth vicariously through my adult sons' naively employed wide-eyed vigour. So nice to see them speak so passionately at the students' union about LGBT rights. To smile proudly as they plan their gap yah Mongolian yurt-building SOASian heroics to impress their manly credentials on good, wholesome university girls haling from their back yard, impervious to the existence of cheaper and easier alternatives. I could teach them the subtleties of manicuring the perfect 5 o'clock shadow as they return to this sceptered isle as knights worthy of Tristram, to a rapturous heroes' welcome.

Hahaha, just joking... I'm not even that old, and have no kids, and I don't live vicariously through anyone else. But this is the essence of most people's pipe dreams. Pipe dreams are by definition pointless and impossible to accomplish - the expression itself betrays an attitude that worships youth and ambition as eternally good but out of reach. Yet, everyone can have one - just as in the old days every man from every walk of life smoked a pipe. Hence my reference to vicarious living through young people. What's a pipe dream for you won't be for the next generation. This is the twist behind opposite expressions, such as '[the gift of God is] eternal life', 'hope springs eternal', etc. It's cultural... But the thing you were looking for was always there with you, and it's a shame if you only realise that when you're on your deathbed. There isn't much more fun or sense of accomplishment you can get from life than riding motorbikes and having a nice drink or meal. But the emptiness of this scares rather than comforts most people, until they live long enough to see that it doesn't matter. The question is, when do you allow yourself to do that? Do you have to pay the price first by achieving something that will cement your status among your peers and fair damsels? Do you have to have a family first? Or put your kids through college? Or retire? When do you finally get your card through the post saying congrats, your life was a success, now go and try some new cocktails, rent out a hooker in a bar in the Phillipines, etc.? Well, that card never arrives, ever.

Thank heavens for that.
Having done those things 30 years back, for a moment I was worried that I'd jumped the gun Laughing

Hot tub time machine.

Travel back to 1986.

Tell 1986 Roger to stop worrying about self control and to love the shoulder pads and Sissy Spritz, because this lustrum represents the zenith of Western civilisation. Rome, reborn before the Fall.

Have enough money to not have to work again coupled with enough storage space to keep all the things I want to have and still leave enough room to do all the things I want to do with them.

A fairly low-end lottery win, a full size WW2 aircraft hanger and about 20 acres of mixed open ground and woodland with a middle-sized river running through it ought to do the trick.

Straight through parallel shotguns.

A bit rusty or comfortably blued
No fishtails, cocktail shakers or bandages
Not too long.
But not "fashionably" too-short
Straight cut or slashed, 45 degree angle

*checks watch* It seems I do, indeed, live amongst the creatures of the night.

I'm a bit of a boring sod, can't say I've thought too much about dreams. I'd probably fix tenancy law or something boring like that.

I've considered the same thing, but to live on it, all Ray Mears like. Only problem's I quite like having a gas cooker, and central heating, and a high speed internet connection Thinking

Someone on here posted a video of a group ride down Stelvio pass. I’d love to be able to ride that smoothly and confidently. I’m still having trouble with tight bends. Embarassed

And any of the dreams I’ve had featuring Mr Jon Bon Jovi coming true, would be awesome. Wub Though with a time machine, before I got married.
