Today I did, nearly, squish a fellow biker!
Well that's not strictly true, in that he had a good go at squishing himself aginst our car!

I'm, on the motorway in lane 2, overtaking 5 cars and a bike in Lane 1, the bike is 3rd in line.
Just as I'm about to pass him, our hero decides Lane 1 isn't for him and he needs to be in Lane 2, precisely where the 2 ton lump of metal, that is a Suabaru Forester, is.
He didn't indicate, didn't bother with a life saver, just swerved out of L1 towards me, FFS!
Fortunately for this plonk, I hit the brakes and managed to move over slightly, which gave him just enough space to escape.
Not really sure what bike it was, I think it was an older yellow CBR600.
What didn't help this pillock was his RH mirror was missing, (which makes me wonder whether he makes a habit of doing this), knowing this you'd have thought he'd have taken a bit more care on a motorway!
Anyway there was no angry reaction from me, no flashing of lights or horn action.
He knew he'd fcuked up big time and promptly put as much distance between us as he could.

If that was you, this morning at 10:30am, southbound on the M5, you're a very lucky person, may I suggest buying an extra lottery ticket for tommorow.

No he wasn't the only prick on the road today, but he was the only I saw who came close to instant death!

The moral of the story is, you know all that stuff about mirror, signal, life saver, manouvre, one day you might regret not doing it, because one day it won't be me driving, it will be some myopic twat, checking their facebook status, instead of watching what's happening around them!

I no longer believe in smidsy.

The laws of probability explain it.

There is only two possible outcomes.

The vehicle waits
The vehicle doesn't wait

Plan for the worst.

In that gif isn't he going 100kph=60mph=Typical Speed limit for a Single Carriageway? Thinking (Granted not our countries roads, but applying our speeds as I have no other reference)

It's an open junction that the idiot with his "boy in the back" emerged from?

Surely that would suggest that either the dickhead shouldn't have pulled out, or that 60mph speed limits on single carriageways are not safe?

Not trying to put ideas in their heads, just playing Devils Advocate.
It also seems ridiculous to go largely less than the speed limit everywhere because "other people make mistakes" (...Shouldn't that be "People make mistakes"?)

Pretty sure one of the speech subtitles was the wrong colour too, the "I dont have time to stop" was in yellow which was the idiot pulling outs colour. (stopping didn't apply to the emerging idiot as he was already in the path of danger.) [/PEDANT] Very Happy

I agree with your sentiment though, if on a bike I would have been SMIDSY weaving and preparing to go to the opposite side of the road pronto.

***Controversy Head On***

Idiot, whanker, dickhead woteva...

We live among other humans who may be attentive at any time or less than 100% attentive at other times.

It's annoying, dangerous, careless but extremely predictable if you are familiar with human behavior.

We adjust for other natural variables but get all uppity for human nature.

***Controversy Head Off***

I can see why folk are sometimes too buse.

I'm riding without any mirrors at the moment and I am even more careful when overtaking, instead of checking my mirrors and doing a lifesaver I make sure there is a good distance from the car in front and then turn my head round and look behind to see any cars and their speed.

Even if his mirror was there bike can have blind spots, we've probably all missed something 'suddenly' alongside.
Easy to get a bit careless after a long ride or maybe it was someone inexperienced on busy multi-lane roads.

Here (North York Moors) we don't have many dual carriageways local let alone motorways and it's all a bit stressful for new drivers to have vehicles alongside at speed.
