Thinking of getting an iPad mini (I know, much self-loathing will surround this purchase). The mini 2 and 3 seem to be identical except the 3 has a finger print scanner thingy.

What I was wondering is if the mini 3 would be a safer purchase as apple have a habit of dropping support for previous generation products, although they're currently still selling the mini 2.

Also do apps for the iPhone work well (or at all?) on the iPad? I mainly want one as there are a few iPad only apps that look interesting, and my phones so full of music I can't download all the games I want*.

For that amount of money I'd stretch a bit further and get an ultrabook that won't be completely useless and worthless in 2 years.

About the only reason I can come up with to buy iThings is to develop software for fellow sharecroppers.

Well I do most of my casual browsing on my Nexus tablet, which cost £200 about the same as the iMini. When jail broken you have control over the files on your device, and of course not having to pay £30 for an app is also a plus point Smile

I have a 5 year old IPad 2 and it is still getting IOS updates.

I would go for the Mini 2. I bought one for my son and you are right the only difference is the fingerprint scanner.

I'm waiting for the IPad Air 3 or whatever it's called.

Not for long:

My iPhone 5's still there but I'm sure that'll be dropped soon, not really an issue as I've been jailbroken on 8.4 for a while now.

Technically if they drop the mini 2 they should the 3 as well, but knowing apple they won't.

I went for the 9.7" iPad Pro... Future proofing innit.

Il be that guy saying they are still using their 5 year old iPad. Buying a mini 2 now is false economy. You may get 2 years out of it.

Mini 2 here still gets updates. In fact it's pissing me off with constant updates, nearly as frequent as my Sony Xperia Z5 for updates.
Great for Internet browsing, music

The iPad 2 is a good couple of years older than the Mini 2 though, so you're good for a little while longer
