Honda Fireblade CBR1000RR 2012 £6400 or Suzuki GSX-S1000FA pre-reg £8200

Which one would you get?

I'd get the Suzuki, which means you should probably get the Fireblade.

Fireblade looks fancy and is probably mental, but there's something about that Suzuki... As a real world bike on paper it looks to be bang on. Plus it wasn't that long ago that range topping loony bikes made that sort of power...

Depends.

I'd be more tempted by the Suzuki as I reckon you could drove an even harder bargain on it, finance it for nothing and on paper it's a lot of bike for the money.

But if I were only keeping it a year or two I'd go Fireblade for residuals alone.

Plus 3 years warranty and no MOT until 2019. But yes, chisel every penny because they'll do some crazy BOGOF offer five minutes after you hand over the readies.

Traditionally, yes, but I'd wonder about the strength of the Fireblade market.

If cost and depreciation are the primary considerations, then Y-U-NO 2002 Blade?

^ What he said. There are many 1000s of 2008-2016 Fireblades in circulation, and as a model, it's very old in the tooth and not especially desirable, and just about to undergo a major revamp. So, even at a discount, a new one would not be a good buy if you want to minimise depreciation.

But, of those two, for me it's the Fireblade any day. The GSX-S1000FA is the ugliest mainstream motorcycle to be released since the GSXF600/750. Actually, it's worse. Do you really want to be looking at that thing all Winter? And do you want to be seen on it?

PB have the GSX-S on long term test. So if you want to spend £8k on a bike then spend another grand getting the suspension sorted, sure. If you want a bike with decent suspension to begin with, save cash and buy the blade. That is, of course, if you can cope with the riding position.

Really they are two different bikes aimed at different people. The GSX-S is really a Sprint/VFR rival whereas the Blade is an out-and-out superbike.

Tried both to sit on.

Blade - need to have the flexibilty of a 16 yr old russian gymnast to fold up onto the damned thing.

GSXS1000 - feels like a slightly lower GSR750 - much more comfortable for anyone that doesn't like 'racebike'.

I don't like racebike Smile

When I was trying a CBR600F, I had a sit on the owner's 2001 Blade and lasted about 5 seconds before laughing it off as a bad joke.

I see the 2012 is even more knees-up-arms-down.

Thus my concern about the size of the group who want one and can afford one and can actually ride one.

Neither.

With 8k I'd get a sorted GSXR1000K3/4 for fun and a reasoanble condition 600 for daily use, insure both and spend the significant lump of change on petrol and strippers.

New blade will depreciate like a stone when they launch the newer one and the Suzuki is hideous.

If the options must be those 2, the CBR. I agree with Alex A, the Suzuki looks awful!

Ah, well yes but if we're stepping outside the choices I too would walk right past those two in real life and be frothing at the mouth thinking of the three dream bikes I could buy with 8 grand...but he did only give us those two choices; presumably to help you with a decision OP?

I recently got rid of my 2012 Fireblade. If you're looking for a bike that does everything that you expect and much, much more then the Fireblade is very hard to better.

Ignore all the crap about how the Fireblade has fallen behind in terms of performance. Anyone that tells you that they can come close to getting to the limit of a modern Fireblades performance on the road is simply a liar. Maybe they are slightly down on BHP and don't have all the latest leccy gizmos but IMO no TC etc is a plus rather than a negative. Mine was a C-ABS model and they get a bit of stick for inconsistent brake pressure at the lever but in the 2 years I had the bike the braking performance was simply awesome and the best motorcycle brakes and ABS system I've ever known.

I test rode a GSXR1000 the same time as I tested the Blade and while the Suzuki was superb I found the Honda head and shoulders above it. Nothing in particular that I can say was better than the Suzuki but it just felt so much easier from the off.

The Fireblades all round performance (not just engine performance) is the reason I traded it in. It was simply too much bike and strange as it may seem I got bored with the effortless capability it offered. Maybe just a symptom of getting old?

I'd go for the Suzuki because 64% want the cbr1r0r0r0rr - Common as muck... Wink

Also, I like the look of the Suzuki...

..and people can't say GSXS1000FA properly...

In reality I'd probably buy a CB1000R...

For me it was the inconsistent front/rear bias that would mean I'll never own a bike with that system.

Paddy's just set you to enemy Smile Not ridden a blade (my back hurts just looking at it), but ridden a bike with the same retuned (so detuned) engine, and felt the same thing actually. IMO its just too easy to go quickly, around town any angry fist full of throttle and by the time you tell yourself to back off you're already going stupid speeds. For motorway work I understand but at <60 they're a liability Smile

Not sure what all the fuss about C-ABS is all about, it works fine.
