So, almost exactly 2 years to the day my pair of RST Urban gloves have split on the palm. They were £30, I can't really moan about how long they've lasted. Now looking to replace them and have had a look at the RST Paragon 5 WP gloves. Anyone had a pair? How did they hold up?

Other recommended options? Price range is to £60

I have a pair of Richa Arctic textile waterproof gloves. They're the best gloves I've ever had for cold riding. They're still fully waterproof after a few hours in the rain and they stay warm through winter. Or at least they did for me last winter. They also aren't as bulky as other winter gloves.

Anyway, they're more expensive online but I got a pair from local bike shop for £65. Think I saw a cheaper pair on eBay earlier.

Worth every penny.

I've always used summer gloves all year, last year I opted for some muffs and it makes so much of a difference. I found that any winter glove to be just to cumbersome.

Snap.

<mr bean's voice from ratrace>

<mr bean falls asleep>

I've been using RST Blade WP in all weathers for not far of two years and winters the only time I've ever had any trouble with them. Sure the mention is counter productive because you want a winter glove and here I am saying use them but here I am saying they've left me after a handful of miles with numb hands but truth is in freezing cold temps there's a limit IMO to how long everything's going to last. "Forcefield Tornado Glove" is on the maybe investment list depending on how well they fair up this year. Forcefield because their balaclava kept me noggin warm when needed so might as well try something else in their range.

I've got a pair of RST Urban gloves but I didn't really much like them and after an attempted handful of uses I went back to the Blade's. If you've managed to get along with them thus long and don't have any complaints and are only looking because split why not go with the same again? They're still available £37.99.

Two years might be about average as my Blade's have devolved a small tear in one of the fingertips and are showing their age. Still waterproof and comfy.

That's a good point, its like riding with oven mitts Smile Not looking forward to winter, hopefully it'll be a warm one.

I bought a pair of Triumph branded winter gloves out of necessity during a ride out four years ago, still going strong but then I've hardly used them because fair weather garage queen.

Depends how many fingers you can get used to riding with on the controls. On the summer gloves I've got all four fit comfortably on the lever and I find most preferable for feel through the controls. On the Blade's, the average all round commuting gloves in any weather, I manage three and meanwhile not preferable are do-able and are my go to glove and on the winter glove I just found them far to bulky and didn't really feel like I could get control at all so swapped them out for more preferable ones.

Gloves are a bit of a hard one to buy because are subjective to personal preference and you don't really find out what they're like until your out on the bike and have put them through some miles of use. There's not really a whole bunch of checks you can do before buying beside fit, comfort and ensuring you can move all fingers. Reviews I only really read to ensure that no one complains of non waterproofs and look out for common faults or echo'd opinions throughout multiple riders.

In the interest of keeping to OP's interest regarding the RST Paragaon 5 WP I'd say they're too new to get any real opinion on, 6 reviews on SBS but other than I'd say try on and see what you think. Looking on SBS 360 degree spin thing they look like the RST Blade with a changed design and adapted to fit with a longer cuff and a less sporty look. RST gears all the same in one way or another just in a different package. Works but takes the shine of buying new gear because there's nothing greatly different throughout their range.

Just got these:

https://www.triumphfactoryoutlet.com/media/catalog/product/cache/4/image/9df78eab33525d08d6e5fb8d27136e95/b/r/bright_gloves.jpg

£80 reduced to £25.

Seemed a reasonable price. No idea if they're any use mind, I'll have to wait for it to start getting cold.

They're no bother with returns/exchanges for a different size, but you have to pay the return postage.

I was thinking more in terms of fiddling around with indicators etc., I just feel more clumsy with my winter gloves on. I guess reach can be a bit of an issue if you've got gloves underneath, but I use two fingers anyway on the brakes, all on the clutch.

This year I'm looking at investing in heated gloves now that the technology has moved on far enough for small LiPo batteries. Usually I use a set of Barkbuster Blizzard covers which do a great job of reducing the wind chill but they do make full lock a pain to achieve. I also have a pair of Spada Enforcer winter gloves kicking about but I hate them, they're stiff and bulky and don't actually do a great job (if the Barkbusters aren't on)

Thing about heated gloves is without trying them I'm not 100% sure if the heating elements on them run all the way to the fingertips. It's always my thumb ends that take the brunt of the Nortthern winter, jeffing painful ah tell thee.

My RST Blade summer gloves did OK winter '14 but winter '15 I went for a ride up the mountains in the snow and fook me, I had to stop every 5 mins to put my hands on the engine! So naturally the next day I went out to buy a pair of winter gloves, but returned with nothing despite trying a few shops. I was put off by not believing they would perform as advertised and mostly it was the bulk, I hate not being able to feel my indicators properly.

In the end I bought heated grips (which you can get for less than £60) and wow, best investment ever. Never before in my whole life have I ever felt such value for money Laughing I continued to use my RST Blades with them, being a leather summer glove you get the heat through instantly and it even keeps the top of your hands OK too. Plus you get all the feel of the controls you need.

If you can install them yourself you'll have change from £60, otherwise it'll cost you a bit more of course.

Just thought I'd chuck in my two pee...

Bering Yuka goretex. Got them for 60 notes and they're bloody marvellous as uncle Benny would say. Plenty of feel and are really actually waterproof due to the more more goretex.

Nice.

Alpinestars Drystar for me. They're sold as more of a spring / autumn glove but they've kept my hands toasty through last year's snow.

I had a pair of these for about 4-5 years. They did start leaking slightly in the final 12-18 months after 2-3 hours of heavy rain but until then were really good. By far the warmest gloves i've had.

The past year i've been using Richa Cold Protect's which have kept rain out completely. Not sure about the choice of name though as they aren't that warm in near-freezing weather; found myself quite regularly needing to use thermal liner gloves which I rarely did with the Spada's.

Tried the Tucano Urbano Muff's which definitely worked against the weather but personally I found them a bit distracting and didn't like the enclosed feeling using them on the ZX6.

I'd probably of taken a gamble on another set of Spada's over the Richa's in hindsight considering the price of both.

Really? I bought a pair of no-brand gloves for £10... [counts on fingers] seven and a half years ago. I've worn them pretty much every day since, including today.

We really do have low expectations when it comes to bike gear.

Muff thread.

It does seem that way sometimes.

My main summer pair which are still in good nick have been worn for the majority of my riding since buying them from a clearance basket for £15, just before doing my CBT about 9 years ago.

I've splashed out on I think 3 fancy, branded, racey gloves in that time which were all over £60, thinking "better replace these cheap things" everytime. All seemed to start noticably wearing or even break entirely within 6 months.

I'd buy a crate full of the £15 ones if I could find out what they are Laughing.

If you have to withdraw from the muff in a panic do you sometimes get stuck?
