I'm lid shopping, and many of the lids I like all have one annoying "feature".

Why are all the manufacturers opting for this type of fastener instead of the much loved double-d? |

I like the quick release style, you get the exact same fit everytime, no messing with too tight or too loose.
I've got helmets with both styles though and I don't mind either. ____________________ I want your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

I don't miss the raggedy ends on the straps and they are less prone to getting beard hairs trapped in them.
Pretty sure Arai and Shoei still use DD.
EDIT: I stopped worrying too much about helmet design and fastening systems some time ago. I want them light, non-intrusive, quick to put on and comfortable. I don't believe they make a great deal of difference in a crash anyway so I want them to be comfy and easy to see out of above all else.
Those ratchet things are convenient and easy to take off with cold fingers. I've been stuck in my helmet before today with a DD ring setup and cold fingers. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. Cork was good enough for helmets in Nineteen Dickety Six, I don't see why we needed to change anything.
Double-Ds have sagged in my estimation. Seatbelt-style is inflexibly clunky-and-clicky.
I wouldn't shove my head into anything other than Micro-Metric ratchet now. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Always been a DD man myself.
Used to get quite a few ratchet types returned where the springs had weakened, allowing the the strap to just fall out of the locking mechanism when I worked returns. Maybe just the cheaper helmets, but the systems all looked pretty much of a muchness to me, whatever helmet. Still, plenty of folks seem to get along ok with them.
As said previously, HJC RPHA10 is quite a good lid, and uses DD, assuming it fits you ok. Top vent has just broken on one of mine though ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
