Where you do put yours?

Mines on on the driver's side low down.

Many people have them in the middle of the window.

It probably blocks the driver's view of the road but more importantly it will hide small children on a pavement or between parked cars.

What gives?

Usually as low down as possible around the centre or passenger side (If someone is there), I only need to glance at it and don't want the distraction.
Unlike 100s I've seen who place it right in front of their face Shocked

People put them near the rear view mirror in the erroneous belief that since they are glancing at this area anyway, it is in a good place. People are wrong. People fail to realise that when they are looking up the road and also in the mirror they are looking into the far distance and that to then look at the sat nav means refocusing on the near distance. This takes time and effort. Putting the sat nav as far from you as possible and near the line of sight reduces this time and effort, so as above I place mine at the bottom of the screen, as low as possible, usually in the middle of the screen (simply to facilitate the cable route to the 12v outlet). This also puts it out of the way in terms of seeing important stuff like other road users, pedestrians etc.

People are stupid. Car designers too, who put sat nav screens low in the centre console.

I honestly saw somebody with it in the centre of their windscreen. They must have had such a huge blindspot!

I like to check out a route and see if I can get there by memory.

If I go out of range of the map I bring bottled water and tinned food, mounted in the center of the windshield for accessibility.

bottom right of windscreen

number of people I see with them in the centre of the windscreen or centrally above the dash (so line of sight blocked) is beyond belief.

saw a bloke with an ipad stuck to the centre of his screen the other day

Middle of the windscreen, low down to the dashboard (basically _on_ the dashboard) Blocks no part of my view.
Having it on the right always makes me worry that it's going to fall out of the window.

Blame SEAT (and probably the rest of the VAG group).

Also has a display on the dash itself, but that's where the map is.

I use my phone if I ever need directions, it sits in the cup holder or in my bag and I just listen to the instructions played through the stereo. When it says to take the third exit from the roundabout I don't really need to see a map to show me which one is the third exit.

Plus my SatNav never ever knows the best way to get around my local area. And it pronounces place names incorrectly. Why should I trust it?

In the van I stick the mount for the Zumo right in front of me but behind the instrument cowl, it actually sits on the dash
which keeps it from wobbling or dropping off of the windscreen. Thumbs Up

Likewise. Mine's not in a bad position (also does directions on the dash). My old Avensis had it half way down the centre console.
