I quite fancy an impact driver - but sub £100 - I've looked around at budget models and have seen this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00OKU1RB2/

But I think it might be one step _too_ cheap - so I'm thinking this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SLI9JPA

Reviews seem favourable, anyone have any experience of Einhell?

(I'd like a Bosch, but they're too pricey for my [DIY] level of use)

I think Buildbase sell Einhell. They 'look' OK feel work-man-like.

For 70 notes you can't go wrong. A real impact gun would be over £200/300. Smile

Do you really need cordless? If not, I bought this recently: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331848556297

It's gone up a bit since I bought it, perhaps you can find that model cheaper. It's a big, meaty bit of kit, hate-wrenched the stuck output shaft nut off my Enfield in the moneyshot-blink of an eye, and has since ripped wheel bolts out faster than removing a Rotherham schoolgirls's knickers.

I may have an addiction to aggressively sexualised metaphors.

I have the same one (although branded Clarke). The only thing it failed to shift was caliper bolts on my car which apparently are supposed to be 180Nm but also probably hadn't been touched in a decade. That needed the 6ft scaff bar treatment.

Just bought one of these (last Saturday) https://www.homebase.co.uk/en/homebaseuk/guild-cid18g-impact-driver---18v-464547 so far its been as good as gold and for the money you cant go wrong. Also got that Clarke electric wrench which is good for wheel nuts but it is a bit on the heavy side for anything else.

Can somebody tell me what's wrong with a compressor and one of the cheap ones from aldi?

from my POV a compressor is a lot more useful than an impact wrench and it works out a similar price.

If you use electric you have power right now. (Unless you have no battery charged)

Any air compressor will need time to make up air. They they're a bit of maintenance on air tools to consider.

The compressor is maybe good if you want to buy other air tools though.

People are talking about 2 different things here, an impact DRIVER that uses hex sided screwdriver bits and a nut knocker that uses 1/2" drive impact sockets.

Which are you after?

Well he did post links to hex bits.

I'd scout around for a used Panasonic, they are expensive new, but bulletproof.

This would be what I would buy.
They are designed for site use and as such are robust as hell.
I have personally dropped them from towers, 20ft onto slab concrete and carried on using them as if nothing happened. You will not buy anything near this grade new for under £400.

This is a bargain, dont worry about the condition, as long as they spin, they will be fine. Batteries can be expensive to replace, but if you look around you can get them reasonably cheap. An 18v will last a days heavy work for an installer on a building site, so home use they would be more than capable for anything you could throw at them.

Check the reviews of the Panasonic EY stuff, it is highly regarded worldwide.

Oh wow, you're right, he's linked to bit drivers. Doh!

So get a manual impact screwdriver set for £10 - £15, then smash it in with a hammer. No gulp-and-blow, or fiddling around with batteries, it'll all be over in a few massive bangs.

I would agree for home/garage use my manual impact driver is more than good enough for most screws. Certainly cheaper than an electric jobby but I suppose it depends on how much you are going to use it.

I have the £70 wired Machinemart one, it's shifted everything thrown at it, including a 200Nm single sided swingarm wheel nut which an air impact gun couldn't move. It's rated to 450Nm

It's big though, and fairly heavy.

The hammering one can only be used properly on something solid as it needs to be smacked with a hammer. If you hammer onto something shitty it may not drive. Sad
Or you risk mashing whatever is behind the fastener. Embarassed

The rotary action of the power tool will only impact in the direction you want the fastener to go in.
So maybe Horses for Courses.

I'm after the hex type - not a nut knocker.
I was aware of these hex impact drivers in the past, but it's only very recently that I truly appreciated how good they are.

I was helping a friend out with some decking - because of the percussive driving action, they never slip out of a screw - I tried using one side-by-sde with my [decent] battery drill and the impact driver was _so_ much better - the standard drill sometimes skips out of the screw head (even when leaning fairly heavily) and can end up chewing the head - but the impact driver didn't do it once. Screws that were in awkward positions were still a doddle to drive in reliably - (I'd usually half mangle two or three screws with my standard battery drill in the same situations)

Gave 20 quid for mine. Thumbs Up Got threadlockered star bolts holding down the mounting pints holding down the floor panel
in my van out when all else failed. Also speeds up wheel changes on a car a lot, whizzes a wheel nut on in seconds.
Although I still torque them up by hand. The torch is very good too.

Depends on the compressor. Mine struggles with severely stuck nuts, which seems to be down to the side of the pipework on the compressor (ie, you use the impact gun for a couple of seconds, then when you release the trigger you hear the air refilling the hose for a few seconds).

On the other hand a decent air impact wrench is bloomin good at undoing things. Certainly better than the electric one I have. And when the batteries die on the electric one you are left forking out a lot of money for replacements (if available).

All the best

Katy

People do upgrade their tools and resell their old ones on ebay.

I'm obviously not him, I live just outside London in Herts.

Seriously though dude, buy it, use it and if you dont think it was a bargain, I'll buy it off you at the price you paid.
I could do with some, but I'm in no rush.
