For those that have been through the process.

How long does it usually take for the fixed penalty or summons to be issued once the NIP has been returned?

Asking for a friend... Embarassed

Not even got that far yet. Sent off the form admitting to being the driver 2 weeks ago and not heard a thing.

Up to 6 months.

Over 6 months and it's difficult for them to proceed (in England, providing you use the right legal argument) or impossible to proceed (in Scotland, with the same proviso).

When I was up for posessing a vehicle without insurance, the court date come through for 2 days before the 6 months was up.

Enjoy your wait.

If your on the Brink then buy a Lawyer.
They can present your mitigation better to the audience.
Court is a bit of a Closed Shop and they relate to one of their own rather than some oik from the streets.

Unless you reckon it's not worth the bother of course.

Student budget doesn't really make that an option. Would most likely have to just suck it up.

83 in a 60. A few weeks short of being clear of the two year revoke period Doh! All the online calculators suggest it could go either way in terms of summons or COFP.

The annoying part is I should have realised there was a van there. The car in front of me suddenly slowed down to about 50 on a completely straight bit of road and I got a bit agitated and pinned it past her. It was only when I drew level with her that I realised her car had been blocking my view of the police van she'd slowed down for Embarassed Poor obs etc but I fully hold my hands up to that.

Quite similar to what happened to me once. Only I was overtaking a van until I noticed a florescent green object in the road up ahead. Confused Then I noticed that the said object was pointing something at me. Shocked Then it signalled for me to pull over Sad

83 in a 60 - isn't that just 3 points and a £100 fine?

I got nipped in Scotland a few years ago by a hidden traffic car, averaging 84.74mph over a mile, in a 60 zone too. When I got pulled the copper said I was a lucky lad because anything over 85 in a 60 and that's when they take your license?

Needless to say I fought for the pen and happily signed for my points...

ACPO suggests that anything above 86 in a 60 is the start line for prosecutions. I reckon you will have the Points and fine.

As far as I can tell it's eligible for the COFP of 3 points and £100. But if they take it to court then that speed is in the 4-6 points category under the sentencing guidelines.

Slightly concerned that they've realised it's a revokement case and therefore decided to take it straight to court. Is this a thing or is it all automatic?

The CPS don't have the budget for contested cases, they'd far rather you just fess up and pay the blackmail money.

However, if you don't get the blackmail letter through within a month then it's likely going to court.

Don't the points increase if you're +10 mph over the limit?

I ended up with 4 points and £250 fine for doing 51 in a 40. That was Manx rules though.

That reads like it was a van driving along the road in front of her, in which case, how did they know how fast you/your friend was going?

Or do you mean a scamera van? In which case, Y U no manouver so she blocked your plate?

My brother has just got a 6 point/£120 fine come through for a 58 in a 50.
Seems like they make it up as they go along.

This. And to be honest because I didn't realise they could get my plate from the way they were facing.

Really?! No speed awareness offered? Most counties don't prosecute at all until you're at 10% +2mph so that seems pretty steep.

Yeah, they held me at gunpoint and said unless I give them 60 Scottish pounds (wouldn't accept English) they would take me into the hills and bum me. Thankfully I had 60 Scottish on me. Dodgy bastards
