Hello everyone,

I hope nobody minds that I post this here. I honestly do need some help from people who know bikes. I'm writing a fiction novel and I need help creating a suped-up, futuristic motorcycle, something beyond what we're capable of having right now in this day and age. I was hoping maybe someone can write down some specs/a description of a bike like that, which I can use. I was doing my own research and found some terms that I tried learning about (which seem relevant, but I could be way off), but I can't really grasp. I'm not good with vehicles in general, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Power Generator: Cold Superconducting Generator <-- tried looking into this, didn't really get it
Maximum power in rpms <-- didn't really understand the difference between this and mph, or which to write in the book
Maximum Voltage <-- ??

Hi

Rpm is revolutions per minute. Ie, how fast the motor is turning over. What the realistic rpm range is will depend on the type of engine. Diesel will be low, 4 stroke potentially about 20000. Gas turbine potentially FAR higher. Electric motor not so sure.

All the best

Katy

You could imagine a futurist way of cleaning your visor so that you can see in the rain.

You could call it rainpal.

I don't think electric engines have an RPM as there's no moving parts.

Depending on how far in the future we're talking here, I would wager that chemical engines would be long-gone, electric-based engines would be the new black.
I'm no novellist, but I would look at ion engines:

Care to explain?

Edit: You know what, scratch that. I second the nomination.
I was always under the impression that RPM was to do with the pistons and how quickly that they make a revolution, not the axle.

Oompah-loopahs are the way to go. Cheap to run and good for 60 rpm all day long. Drive-train would be simple to sort out, surprised no-one's done it yet. You could call it the wibbly-wankah. Wink Thumbs Up

How do you think an electric motor turns things if nothing iside it moves?

The stator (or magnets) stays still but the rotor spins.

What you need is an engine crossed with a dehumidifier - It sucks in air, removes the water from it, breaks the hydrogen / oxygen bond and uses the hydrogen to power itself.

This could generate its own interesting problems, like everyone using it for a long time sucking all the water out of a location causing water shortages/desert planet...

Also, bike must be hover type, no wheels, have air brakes perhaps ones that pop out all over the bodywork like porcupine quills. Needs SMIDSY defence mechanism too. Oxygen mask for rider at speeds over 400mph..

1 point 21 jiggawatts of power.

Most important part of any bike is the bogging screw. Just make it WiFi or hashtag or some such shit to ensure its futuristic enough.

The bigger problem is the fact that it breaks Newtons law of conservation of energy.

So you're writing a book with vehicles in and you don't know the difference between mph and rpm's? Okayyyy

And maximum voltage of what ?? AAA battery, about 1.5v... power lines, 11kV, so I'd say either 1.5v or 11kv, or somewhere in the middle.

As for a description of a futuristic motorcycle, have you even bothered to google "futuristic motorcycle" or "future motorcycles" images?

Anyway, if you want to use (steal?) someone else's ideas, Blood runners had some, Akira and other Manga films also have lots. Have you watched any sci-fi films ?? The 'first' of the new Star Trek films, Tron, or what about Judge Dredd ?? Have you ever watched any sci-fi films at all?

Yoof of today want someone else to do all the work for them and take credit....

Or you're a troll.

Motorcycles of the future, will be forced by insurance companies to have front, back and both side cameras. They will also have a black box fitted that downloads there speeds and general riding everyday to their insurance company, anything not classed as normal riding will see their insurance cancelled the next day.
But thats not really going to make a good story!

So that's how Mad Max world ran out of water!

Not in Mad Max world they won't.

As long as it's got "Reaming her quim" in it by page four, it's a good book.

It's a Sci-Fi novel, you don't even to base your propulsion system on current tech.

What about an anti-matter powered vehicle, what about plasma what about fusion? So many options!

Perhaps talk about the sound the bike makes, the way it shakes, the way it rides, how well it copes with imperfections in the road surface, people's reaction to the bike, do they think the rider is a midlife crisis dentist, a leather daddy, a yoof that will steal kidneys for his next fix?

Perhaps read some glossy bike magazines in the name of research? If it's really integral to your writing do a CBT.

I think you're looking in the wrong area; you shouldn't be thinking about the engine; you should be thinking about the suspension.......
most importantly, that of disbelief
