Our (her) cat hasn't been right. He's an 8 year old Russian blue he only has 3 legs and half a tail.

Despite his missing parts he has always gotten about fine. I've seen him scale 6ft+ fences and walk along them. A few days ago he come back with the demeanor that suggested he has lost a fight. It didn't have any noticeable wounds but had the fat tail and was subdued. He spent the next day on the sofa when normally he is quite active and out a lot. He still seems subdued and his balance seems off he just seems a bit clumsy.

We've checked him all over and nothing seems to be damaged or in pain.

Before all of this we noticed he meows ALOT, it wasn't a sudden change it gradually came on but now often he will give you are proper whiney and loud meows. As soon as you give him some attention he stops but he never used to do this or not anywhere near as much.

Was thinking about the vets but I'm not sure if anything is actually wrong maybe we are being paranoid.

TL;DR

Cat has been whining for attention more and seems more clumsy than usual.

Eyesight is going.

Dylan Supacat (18ish years old) went the same way.

Went crazy and shouted at everything while his sight was fading until it totally went.

Vets said they can't do anything for him :/

The meow is similar not as crokey but he will look at you when he does it.

What he will do is start meowing out of sight and if you ignore him he will get closer slowly whilst meowing until you give him some attention.

Dylan has gone proper senile, we called him a sealion because lols.

Get it down to the local Animal Quack's.

At least she/he/whatever can check for a pulse and if it has any fever.

Probably won't be able to leave until you sign up for a week's course of 'wee white pills'. (Our vet assures me that they are all different compounds. Aye right!!)

It could be nothing but if you value the beast then do what you can.
Won't be too sore financially and if not able to pay then visit PDSA.

Balance off could be ear related.
Vets for a check up is probably prudent.

^^^^ this
Smell both ears, if theres an infection you'll smell it. If no smell try cleaning them (don't know how easy this is with a cat). Or if its been fighting could've just pulled a muscle in the single leg.

If it looks in pain go to the vet, if not wouldn't waste the money. My vet has took me for 700 quid over the past 3 weeks on various tests to find out why my dog was retching and bringing up bile, after doing some research myself, I changed how often its fed and now its fine. They don't give a sh*t for your pet, their a business and their only concern is profit.

The whole looking like he lost a fight thing could be significant.

Given your history, my bet is he's got a high temperature, possibly as a result of a bite from another cat. Normally respond very well to antibiotics.

Is a pure guess though.

One of our dags got into a fite with another dag. It got a bite to the arse cheek. But there was very little evidence of injury. He was a hardy soul and still went about as normal.
Then I noticed a wee limp, and a bit of a pen and ink after a couple of days.
Visit to the Vet found he had massive infection under the skin around his right buttock.
The other dog had sunk it's teeth in so far that some of the hair had been trapped under the skin and caused a bit of rot etc.
All the effected/affected skin had to be cut out and the wound pulled closed. Nasty.
Septicaemia may have been the next stage.

When a cat suddenly gets the frownies, it's always a fight that ended in a claw or bite, in my experience.

Latest incident was the same for us, day later his head swelled up on one side and he looked proper sorry for himself. Wasn't smelly, but with the obvious tension in his skin we though a vet trip the following morning was in order.

Overnight the poor sod popped it by himself and pretty much 'The Exorcist'-ed the kitchen floor. Was much perkier, what with his red paws and all.

Still went to the vet though for a shave, jab, course of antibiotics and a £70 bill.

We've had that before with him. As the vet said "Awww he hasn't learned to run away yet" We have checked him all over and can't find any holes. I let my missus know, a cat should be ~36 Deg C right? We have an ear tester thing. I'll get my missus to check he fell out of bed last night Crying or Very sad Laughing

I'll see if I can get her to get him down the moggy menders.

Our vet only works in old money.

Genie's temp was 101F, the cat mechanic said that was normal.

Quote:
The normal body temperature for cats falls in the range of 99.5-102.5 Fahrenheit.

I start to worry at 103 farenheit (39.4C).

You may struggle with an in the ear thermometer designed for humans, they rely on finding the eardrum and a cats one is much further in than a human one.

How do you shove it in a pussy without a lot of struggling and clawing?

I talk to them nicely while placing my forearm across the small of their back and taking a firm grasp of their tail.

Is this just for a temperature reading, or are we talking about your famous glove puppet routine?

Well, a nice cat like that, you don't want to eat it all at once.
