Jumped outside garage, bike stolen Manchester

Arrived back home last night, pulled up in front of my garage. Jumped off the bike, opened the garage door then was hit from behind with real force. They slammed the garage door shut on me and took the bike. 3 month old street triple. Absolutely gutted. Annoyed at myself for leaving the engine running but they would have just attacked me for the keys anyway, they'd already followed me round the back of the building.

I'm physically ok thanks other than a sore neck. Feeling pretty sorry for myself. Just waiting for insurance to call me back. Have been worrying that they won't pay out because the keys were in the bike but the police said it's a robbery rather than a theft and I hadn't left it unattended so hopefully should be ok. Don't think I'll ever see the bike again now though.

Spoke to insurance broker, they said it depends whether The insurer view the robbery as special circumstances as to whether they pay out because the keys were in the ignition. Also lost half of my no claims bonus. And the police say that if they recover it they'll charge me £150.

Makes you wonder who gets punished really.

providing the bike isnt out of your sight when running i don't think it would be an issue, especially in this case

leaving the bike running and Effing off inside to make a cuppa is a bit different though.

I read the ombudsman advice page and because I was on private ground, out of site of the general public, and stood next to my bike meaning the guy had to assault me, I think I should be ok.

Sorry to hear this.

For future reference, I would have no hesitation in recollecting that I'd removed the keys (to open the garage, natch), and dropped them when I was hit. Honesty shouldn't mean being double-penetrated.

The amount of posts on various forums I've seen about stolen bikes recently makes me want to pack my bags and piss off elsewhere, it's only going to get worse (mystik meg prediction).

It's probably on route to a 3rd world country right now, but for what it's worth I hope you get your bike back.

Yep, something similar happen to a guy in salford who came to the trauma unit.

But that was at traffic lights, two guys jumped him.

I know this won't make you feel any better but theft is one of the main reasons I still ride a shitter. Every time I think about getting a better bike I always take into consideration if I could afford getting it stolen. That's how bad it has gotten. Obligatory, can't have nice things.
