So I'm a "real" biker now. Yay.

Holding off on the new R6 because 2016 models are sold out. Apparently Yamaha sold out in March and won't be making any more 2016 models. I rang a lot of dealerships (local ones, fuck getting one delivered/cba to go and look at one far away).

Good timing because the 2017 is being revealed on the Thurs 13th. If it isn't completely uglified like a few of the recent 2017 reveals at intermot 16 then I'll buy one.

Failing that there's always either the Daytona 675R or a 2nd hand BMW S1trillionRRRRRRRRR, depending if I can handle the insurance on the latter.

Exciting times ahead.

So what happens now that you've got an A license, mainly;

1) Did the insurance company ask what on earths going on since you've already declared full license but here you are on the phone saying you've gained it today.. or did you not do that?

2) Does the A license wipe the slate clean and the fact you've held an A2 license for two years count for nothing?

3) DVLA website still state that you've held A2? (that updates a lot quicker I think so might be worth checking back once it's been updated for A)

4) Push the insurance quotes up by much stating you've just gained your A today vs declaring a two year old A2 license?

I ask out of interest as I've got this brilliant whirlwind ahead of at some point.

Congrats. I envy the freedom of being able to buy and ride anything. Thumbs Up

They never asked me to specify if I had an A2 or A, so I assume they just think I have A. Fuckit, got away with it anyway. AFAIK "length license held for" is from the first time you ever get the pink license.

Doesn't wipe clean the slate, I still have two years no claims to prove I had a full license to ride the Ninja. As above, how long you've held your license counts from the day you get your pink license. In my book that means since I passed A2.

Not sure if they'll state I held A2, probably just A.

I declare my 2 year old A2 license. Unless the card comes back showing a different date of when it was issued. Gotta wait and see about that.

of course I'm just answering these with no actual research/background at all, just how I interpret all this confusing bollocks Mr. Green

@grr666
Yes I have my shiny certificates and surrendered my license. Waiting for the new one in the post.

Insurance only care if you insure a vehicle in accordance with your license, and as Meef said no claims bonus transfers regardless. My NCB from my 'CBT only' time transferred okay, as it's still a motorcycle.

The only folk you have to tell when changing license types/grades is my fellow taff dingus' in Swansea.

Again, nice one. May I suggest a Ducati? At least test ride one, you never know!

I'm going to take full advantage of test riding now, going to try all the bikes I've ever wanted to try (if they let me on em).

The only hurdle I've ever encountered with test rides has been "so you've had your license how long...?" You shouldn't have that issue as you've had the requisite time with a license, regardless of any numbers after the A.

Have fun dude!

One of my local places insists on a chaperone on test rides. Then again it's a Harley dealer so they don't sell motorbikes.
I always thought it was in case you dropped the 15 tonne paperweight and needed a hand to pick it up.
Test riding can be an expensive past time. Last test ride I went on was two weeks ago. I pick up mine tomorrow. Evil or Very Mad

Gratz on your cheevo.

If they only distinguish between "provisional" and "full" so I don't see how else you could answer.

The question of how long you've had your license is trickier. You can put in the date of your first pass (whether that's A2 or A1 or even conceivably AM) but Careful Now.

Self, I now put 2010 when insuring the Enfield and Ninja (because that's when I got a 25kW license that covers those bikes), but 2012 for the Nazi Tractor (because that's when it automagically upgraded to full A). The difference between 4 and 6 years appears to be minimal anyway, but between 0 and 2 you're likely to see a big jump.

Best of luck.
