Lane Splitting USA/Texas

For what it is worth to you, the state of Texas is entertaining lane splitting like California.

Is it allowed in the UK anywhere?

What you call lane splitting we In Uk call filtering it is legal and always has been in the UK

Living in London I filter every day and have done for 43years !

Yesterday I was filtering (Lane splitting to you 'muricans), and the Dibble Wagon (Police car) moved over to give me room. It's usually (not always) quite civilised, and not like a lot of the US youtubers seem to make it, which seems to be to rage at everyone that doesn't bow down to them.

There are no hard and fast rules allowing or disallowing it, but the police always have the option of reckless/dangerous driving to throw at you if you "filter" at 50.

I can see that ending badly.

I've got a mate who lives in Texas and he says that people will try to deliberately knock you off the bike if they see you filtering and that the cops would give the driver a pat on the back for stopping you if they did.

Some of the videos I've seen they either try to block you or over-react by swerving half into next lane.
I've also seen riders apparently with the attitude it is OK to blast through at unsafe speeds because it's not illegal.

There will be far more mishaps than here where it's been accepted practice for decades.

It's normal to pass on either side on American Freeways too. While not specifically illegal, nearside overtakes are not the norm in the UK. This vastly increases the degree of hazard you're exposed to while filtering.

I filter like a fcuker whenever I see lanes of traffic.

But I am exrtremely courteous and safety safety safety.

Even though I am a knight of the road there are those out there who are so well jello of my progress they try to cut me off.

Hoofing a wing if possible aye makes them think twice.

Tip: Always have an escape route planned before hoofing a motor though.

I do not have the stats but it seems to me like about 1% of the other road users are twats when it comes to blocking a dude on a bike.
Mostly everyone knows we are able to get on and actively squeeze/budge over.

Yep as said splitting/filtering is OK here and for the most part accepted by car drivers as long as one doesn't ride like a twat.
Anytime I see a driver make an effort to give me room I try to
give a wave or nod in return, seems like good manners.

There are a few nutters of course but in the main it doesn't seem to provoke the homicidal fury of drivers like it often seems to in 'Murica

CBA to find it now but do recall a Youtube vid where some psychotic driver kept saying "You broke the law" as an odd justification for
attempted murder.

30 miles in heavy traffic on the bike yesterday in the time it took rest of family to cover 3 miles to the railway station. Even with the widest Givi boxes on filtering is a thing. I thought it was going to be a bad day with stationary traffic on the A1 and M62, but apparently not. It felt like winning until I realised that meant I was paying for the hotel.

UK law is different to US law in that everything is legal until it's expressly prohibited at which point filtering never needed legalising. It's considered poor form or perhaps careless or dangerous driving if one filters through traffic moving above about 20mph.

If they do legalise it in Texas (hopefully they do) then they'll need to do a big advertising/Information campaign to educate the other road users.
If they don't then there will be a big 'shoot out' between a biker and a cager at some time (which I guess would also increase awareness )

Car drivers seem to always be fairly courteous on my commute, always move over when filtering. I always give people a thumbs up if they purposely move to give me more space however Americans seem to have the whole 'it's unfair' attitude towards filtering.
