I have just fitted some to my 2004 ZX-6R and am absolutley blown away at how quick the grip arrives from cold. they warm up in no time at all and offer the best grip I have ever experienced. I was hesitant about getting my knee down with the old pilot sport tyres I once had but these new pilot powers are so much more stickier! I have no worries about reaching really low lean angles with them and low speed manouvres are much easier because I can ride the bike a bit more aggressively and fling it in to slow 90 degree corners like a 250! almost got my foot peg down on a 15 mph 90 degree corner entering my work today! Just what i wanted to hear Cool

Price seems good too. What about life?? how many miles do i expect to get out of some?

Im on an RS125 so theres not much power or speed, and i will be going to work/college 5 days a week, about 50km a week, and then a 100km ride every weekend.

on a light bike like that and nice cool climate I think it would be expected that a pair of pilot powers would last you about 8,000 miles, A friend of mine had a pair on his 2000 ZX-6R and they lasted him 8,000 kilometers of commuting scratching and 4 trackdays!

636, just wondering if you've used these tyres in the wet at all?

I work for Michelin and a perk of the job is free tyres for a vehicle in my name but I was a bit unsure about putting Michelins on the bike, I'm hearing a lot of good things about pilot powers though.

I doubt they make them for an RS 125 though, if they do a tyre designed for 600's and 1000's will take absoloutley ages to warm up on a 125.

My next set of tyres! Thumbs Up

If performance in the wet is anything like my Avon's then they won't grip too well, that is of course a guess.

My Avon AV49/50's are like slicks! They have minimal tread pattern. Just means it can't disperse standing water too well. but they are ridable. Can't fault my Avon's in the dry but I've heard lots of good things about the Pilot Powers.

Ye they do, thers a bike selector on the michelin website. as regards to warming them up, wouldnt it be similar to warming up the tyres iv already got (dunlop D207's)??

also, is it important to have tyres tracked when they are fitted? I can get em off a neighbour cheap and his garage fits them but doesent track them (he has never tracked tyres on his bikes he says)

cheers

D207's on a 125 Surprised

Mate, you might not have ever ridden on warm tyres Wink

I was struggling to properly warm an 010 up in January last year on an 80 mile ride, on a 400.

Dunlop GPR70SP's should work nicely on your bike. I'm running some at the moment, quite sticky even on cold January track days. They don't last long on a 400 (2500 miles give or take), but should be a bit better on an RS125. I think M1ke had some on his RS125.

actually I have only been over patches of road that were wet from sprinklers and at some pretty sharp lean angles too, the result was nothing noticable at all! not even a shimmy from the front Thumbs Up I love these tyres!

I don't understand why they would not work on a 125 surely they weigh less and all but a sticky tyre is a sticky tyre yeah?

Less weight...less friction to warm them up maybe?

if that were the case then how come the bikes tend to be getting continuously lighter year by year? and the bikes are getting better at handling as a result. The goal of tyre companies is to continue producing the best tyres for the main stream market of sports bikes and to improve their top selling tyres through R&D which would also take into account the specs of the new trends in motorcycle design, I would agree that a tyre has more bite with weight on it but only to a certain degree like a blackbird has a high weight and would feel a bit squirmy reaching the lean angles that Michelin proclaim from their pilot power's how ever a 600 has the right balance between weight and ergonomics to not over load the tyre in harsh conditions but a 125 is as sharp as a tack handling wise so I can't see why there would be much difference as the bike can be flung arround with out mercy until the chassis starts protesting but at these levels the tyres are at the same point as a 600 because the 125 can be ridden so much harder tha a 600, it's kind of hard to explain but does anybody see what I mean?

Yeah i think you are right there mate. Im going to be asking around over the next couple of weeks. Im drawn towards the pilot power tyres. I know how much they are, i just dont know about how long they are going to last

cheers

ash

Edit...What is tracking??

My neighbour who can get me these tyres abit cheaper says they can fit them at his place but they cant track them, but he says its not important...i wish i knew what he was on about[/b]

I think what he means is balancing, this is done by inserting a steel rod through 2 cone shaped ends and have the wheel centre floating on the ends of the cones while the steel rod sits on a frame to support the wheel. The heaviest part of the tyre then spins the wheel to let the weight sit to the lowest point of the frame. The tyre is then rotated 90 degrees and a suitable balancing weight is placed at the point 180 degrees from the heaviest part of the tyre in an attempt to balance the weight of the tyre joint. Also another point I noticed on a Pilot Power test was that Michelin are claiming identicle wear for both the Pilot Sport and Pilot Power. If this is true then that would be a fantastic tyre as I managed to get 11,500 Km from my first and last pair of Pilot Sport's including 1 trackday of 200km Very Happy

well if they are claiming that, then it should smash through 5000kms with no problems....Pilot Power's are still winning!

People keep shouting Bridgestone Battlax 090s at me...are these up to much?

here is a bit of info about the Bridgestone Battlax 090
Arrow THE BT-090 PRO IS THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR AGGRESSIVELY RIDDEN 250 - 400cc BIKES & SUPERMOTOS.

BT-090 PRO REAR HAS A NEW COMPOUND WITH INCREASED GRIP & CORNERING STABILITY FOR EVEN FASTER LAP TIMES.

MORE GROOVES IN THE CENTRE AREA OF TREAD MEAN OUTSTANDING WET GRIP, WHILE REDUCED GROOVES ON THE TREAD SHOULDERS GIVE EXCELLENT MID CORNER FEEDBACK & MASSIVE LEVELS OF GRIP FOR HARD CORNERING.

after having a look at the tyres tread pattern I can see that they would be a great tyre on a very wet surface but in the dry it has about 75% the size of contact patch on the edge of the tyre where it really matters when compared to a pilot power but I think it would all come down to a cost thing, The pilot power may be a bit more expensive but if Michelin make the tyre in that size then I would believe that they have tested it and have faith in it's ability to work extremely well and uphold the strong world wide oppinion of the pilot power ( just do a search on the Pilot power and see if you can find a negative result Wink )

You can't have your cake and eat it! It's either a grippy tyre which will wear quickly or a touring tyre that will last the miles....

I got just over 2k miles from my last rear Avon AV50. That was including wearing the tyre evenly from edge to edge. I've got a twitchy right wrist! Laughing

I'd rather have my bollocks nailed to a table than put tyres designed for 600-1000cc bikes on a 125.
