Evening all,

As per the title. Not sure what's current in the world of hand held computing, so please offer recommendations.

A bit of background...

Dog knocked over a cup of tea and ruined my uber awesome laptop. I replaced it (much cheapness, many woe) and I don't like what I have. Wifey has started her masters, so the laptop is now hers for messing around on (crap like dissertation writing etc). I was going to wait until I had enough saved up to get myself a new uber awesome laptop, but then I realised that having finished my degree and not needing it for work, the only thing I'll use a computer for is watching youtube videos (guitar tutorials/music/fishing), facebook, this fine website, online betting and shopping. I don't actually need a laptop at all. A decent screen and the ability to access the web is everything I need.

I do have a couple of requirements though. It has to be decent screen quality as it will be mostly video watching... And I'm very tactile in my nature. It has to feel nice to use. For example, scrolling on apple touchscreen products feels very nice to me (although budget and not being a hipster precludes apple products). But that's about it.

Please point me in the right direction BCF folks. I'll be very grateful.

(please note, I'm more after personal recommendations. I can and have browsed a good deal of products in my price band, but without actually playing with them, I can't tell how they feel. And that really is important to me)

Well, regardless of what we say here you're going to be in the same boat.

Go to a shop and play with a few, then buy it used for within your budget.

Fair point. Not that keen on buying used, I like to know the history of my stuff. There's no way to tell it hasn't had someones jism on it at some point.

I might just up the budget and get the galaxy A 10.1inch. Looks relatively new, reasonable spec and battery life. I'm off to the shops tomorrow to have a play with a few. We'll see what happens. In the mean time, if there's any little gems out there that sound like my cup of tea, I'd love to hear about them.

(inb4 buy a rainpal)

Shame Tesco stopped making the Hudl range, I love mine and have no intention of replacing it anytime soon.
1920*1200 screen device at £100 was a steal.

I have seen used ones go for more than the retail price, which says a lot for them.

If mine broke tomorrow, I'd happily pay £120 for a used replacement, as long as it was minty.

If you can find one: https://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/ipad-mini-2-16gb-black-white-140-asda-instore-only-2527497 These in-store offers are normally a wild goose though.

I'd probably say a Tab A as well, I got for my mum and it seems nice (not spent a massive amount of time on it). Less clunky than my Nexus 7 anyway.

I second the Hudl 2.
The Nvidia Shield has got to be a good shout too.

After much faffing around and visiting a great many shops, I'm now the proud owner of a galaxy A 10.1inch tab. So far I have to say I'm impressed. £200 with a bit of shopping around and haggling.

It seems pretty sharp and intuitive. Feels nice to use too.
