Has anyone had their streets done by these?

Fucking mad thing is, I work from home and I did not see anyone replace all 5 of them in my street.

But what I was wondering, I see one which is closest to the window where I work from and it has a small antenna looking thing sticking out the top of it. I wonder what this is for? Just a sensor?

Yeah I've got them last week, weird looking things. At least the one outside my house now actually goes off during the day.

Got them down the road from me. They give shite light, create dark black shadows and randomly flicker on and off.

I have them on my street. Preferred the familiar orange glow of the older lights.
Isn't the sensor on the top to detect when it's dark?

You'll be happy to know of course that LED street lights are paid for by PFI arrangement. So you're going to be renting those street lights for the next 25 years.

We have had half the street lights off for ages. I'm not sure if they are switched off or just broken and not repaired. I'll take any lighting rather than non though.

As a slight tangent on council lighting, has anyone noticed the rise of the reflective bollard? They have been manically replacing the electric ones round here with these, which is OK in a car with decent lights but not on a push bike in a non illuminated area.

Liverpool council have been replacing the old sodium lamps with leds randomly it looks like

so roads are a mix of amber an white light - looks a wee bit random

they fitted new LED's on my street recently
I have to admit they are a lot dimmer that the previous ones but the up side is its great for my Astronomy

They are shit. Really bright if you are standing underneath them, or if one is outside your bedroom window

But as was mentioned earlier, they cast dark shadows everywhere else.

This is what I'm talking about, you can quite clearly see what looks like a small antenna sticking out the top of it.

I remember the old lamp posts used to have a little dome on the top which was the daylight/night sensor as we used to nick them when we were kids by climbing up them.

The other one in the culdesac also has one sticking off it, so assume they all do further up the street.

It would make sense to put WiFi on lamp posts and you could create a massive WiFi hub through out the country with it.

Depends what I've got on.

Centre spot of the 12x XML t6 torch is a good bit brighter than my truck headlights. That can then be accompanied by another 7x XML t6 and a 2x u2 XML 2 on a head torch.

This is a 3 led cheap copy of an expensive torch using similar LEDs:

Just my single XML U2 headtorch (half decent reflector) has a considerably brighter centre spot than offered by most car headlights.
It cost me £15 with batteries and charger. Better batteries that mean it can least a few hours on full power were another £20.

I've wondered about making something like this before to put on push bikes (probably a couple of red for the rear pointing downish).

Chips listed are now available for around a couple of quid so could be done pretty cheaply and I've got lipo batteries that would power it fine.

They've appeared here in Leicestershire as well, the white light should help the scrotes tell the colours of the wires they're chopping and twisting together. Thanks council!

I think a lot of local councils are going for the reduction in street lighting these days. Cost-saving, energy saving or whatever.

The bonus with LED lights is that they use far less energy so the council can spend more of your taxes on useful things instead of forking out to energy firms.

Ours cause less light pollution and burn so much less energy, that we can now have street lighting after 11pm.

It was sh1t in my area when they turned off lights at 11.30pm. It was literately pitch black.
