Out on the bike today and it cut out a few times. It seemed to happen when I was braking in a higher gear and coming to a complete stop. So clutch in and brake and revs drop to zero and bike cuts out.
Didn't seem to do it all the time either, just now and then.

Bike starts as normal, runs fine and idles at about 1000rpm or slightly more when warm.

Only just did an oil and filter change but can't see how that would affect it.
Have also only recently come back from a 2000 mile trip to France and had no problems at all.

Any ideas appreciated.

Bike is a Suzuki Bandit 1200 K6 carbureted engine.

When it cuts out, does it free wheel with the clutch in? Is it possible the clutch isnt engaging properly?

Never happened on my bandit but I know from experience the clutch rod is a delicate little thing.

Just a thought.

Thanks Hawkeye that is a possibility.
I initially thought it may be a fuel issue but the clutch makes
sense.

Weather is pants here but will check that out once it drys up a bit.

I`m thinking the same thing about the fuel level going low and not recovering when stopping.

I may have misread this so apologies if that's the case, but are you pulling up to traffic lights in 4th gear with the clutch in?

Were you not taught to come down the gears gradually before coming to a stop?

Clutch dragging just enough to kill it?
Does it stop dead or does the engine RPM drop relative to the speed of the bike?

I changed the old in my CBR to some fancy full easter stuff and the clutch because a lot 'grabbier' (and also developed the well known honda clutch 'chat').

If you accelerate up to mid range and pull in the clutch does the engine RPM drop right back to idle or sit higher than idle whilst coasting at a reasonable speed?

Thanks for the replies guys.

Been struck down with ManFlu so not been able to look at the bike.

Going to look at the clutch switch as it has the Suzuki pull in to start
gizmo.

It is a weird issue as when I ride bike the and brake normally by changing down and using engine braking all seems fine.

Only when I brake in a higher gear does the problem appear.
First noticed it when some twat crossed the road without looking.
Being a bit OCD I then starting recreating the high gear braking scenario. Even then it doesn't cut out every time.

Happens on my B6 when I have not kicked down enough gears approaching a roundabout or similar, more likely when it's cold/wet and on a long journey. Usually fixed by application of hot coffee to the rider, so I assume i'm getting a little fatigued and not getting the clutch in all the way, which correlates with a lazy lack of downshifts.

That is a very interesting observation.

Us quinquagenarians can tire quickly.
First time wearing my winter gloves too, which
are hardly built for feel.

Here's hoping a little adjustment of the clutch lever and
a few extra caffeine breaks can do the trick Smile
