Hi Guys

Friend is looking to put together a low budget PC for general house / office use and light gaming.

Wont be playing anything too fancy and budget is about £400-£500 for a tower only.

Some old WW2 style games and maybe some newer games off steam.

Put together below to go with the other usual components i.e. SSD, HDD, case etc.

Any critique? Anything you would chop / change? Really isn't much more room as we are just coming in about £500. That said, if anything really needs re-considering then it can certainly be looked at.

The only thing was maybe swapping to an i5 (Intel Core Skylake Processor i5-6500/3.2 GHz Processor) but that adds over £80 and pushes way over budget. To go with the above, we have an SSD and a separate HDD. Case and OS are covered.

Looking forward to any suggestions or hopefully some general agreement that the above will be alright Thumbs Up

Thanks in advance

The i3 series CPU is probably the biggest downfall, plus the GFX card is sufficient but not ideal.

May help to specify some examples of games rather than generalisations.
We talking Combat flight Simulator? BF1942? BF2? BF3? etc etc.
Steam sells a lot of games too. Smile

Yes every component is important, but with gaming I'd say priority should be....
1. Graphics Card
2/3. CPU/RAM
4. Hard Drive access speeds (SSD etc?)

Any reason he is going micro ATX too? you only pay a small amount more but less room for expansion in the future. (more storage etc)

Wait for the gtx1050 ti (4gb) to be released next month or grab an rx480 4gb

get an i5 cpu or buy a console.

8gb ram is decent enough

A few games include BF2, Farm Simulator, Euro Truck Sim etc.

M-ATX was because he found a case he liked that was in that form factor.

Unlikely to be upgrading really in any near future. The board can take extra RAM but I don't think it will be needed.

He isn't a big gamer and doesn't play latest game really.

Graphics is okay, but not great we get that.

If the budget stretched then something like the rx480 would be nice but maybe a little much for his requirements and budget.

We have an SSD (Samsung Evo 250GB) and then a standard HDD for storage.

I think we will look to try and get the i5 Thumbs Up

I'd like to put more in, especially on the graphics front but the budget won't allow for it and I think it would be wasted slightly on some of the games.

Thanks for the input so far Thumbs Up

PSU looks a bit overkill to me (both in brand and in power).

I'd be wondering if Haswell CPU's are cheaper used and might end up outperforming Skylake in the same price range, especially if you buy used (CPU's don't really fail). I have no idea having not actually checked, though.

We don't even use i3 for office PCs, buy second hand if budget is an issue.
