You can join Hellkat's prostitution ring. I assume that's what she's up to, driving people about in the middle of the night
I don't believe you'll have a problem signing on, normally it's only if you've resigned or been sacked for gross misconduct etc. you'll have issues. It's depressing, luckily being older they might leave you alone. Also it depends how much savings you've got, with regards to how much you can claim (nothing if you've got too much). |

I know it seems like quite a knock, Scorpsie, but please don't take it like "Oh I'm too old to get another job now".
Three redundancies on the trot is a bit of a bugger, I've had one, and a "We're not taking your 6 month probation period onto permanent contract" in the last 2 years, and even those were a knock for me, at 55.
But you're not on the scrap heap yet, gal, and you can and will pick yourself up and do something else. Try to look at your life from a different angle; I still struggle with "But I'm just a secretary/PA/editor - and I can't do anything else", but eventually I moved into other things, and (although some of them are voluntary and unpaid) I am still even now learning new skills and having new and interesting experiences. Hopefully I will be able to monetise those skills soon, regardless of how old I am. And I am sure you are smart enough to manage to do the same.
Don't make me wave a motivational quote poster at you, woman

I was quite fortunate in that I had a reasonably positive couple of experiences when I signed on, but these were for short periods of time (I think 3 months was the longest). I was glad to get out from under the mantle of having to sign on every fortnight and justify my existence to people for whom I cared nothing whether they lived a horrible life or died a horrible death. That was very tedious indeed.
When I told the "advisor" that I was thinking of going for my PCO licence, he looked horrified and said, "But its long hours, unsociable shifts, do you think you can cope with that?"
I just looked at him like:
Mate. I've not got to this extended age and not been able to manage doing long/unsociable hours.
Honestly, I've worked in the civil service (well, NHS) and REALLY some of those DWP people are so protective of their boundaries. I don't think they'd know hard work if it bit them on the leg. ____________________ Not nearly as interesting in real life. |

As for trying to claim JSA, I hated it
Signing on day meant joining all the no hopers and drunk spakkers
And when you reached the front of the queue and it was your turn to be interviewed, it felt like they were looking down their condescending noses as they spoke to you.
They would tell you that you have to attend this and that course about returning to work and they all seemed pointless.
When a job for my type of quals/leaning didn`t appear they would start asking me to apply for some really crappy shit jobs with crappy pay & conditions.
When I refused, I was told that my JSA would be stopped.
It felt like being put in the shit mincer
Sorry to be so negative, but that was how it felt for me. |
I hated it as well. I used to get into arguments with them as I'd apply for jobs from the job point and immediately get a spam email. When I asked if anyone checked if the jobs were genuine they told me no one did
Then I got sent on the 'work programme' to Reed, and had to spend my days searching for jobs on their shit old computers which barely worked, whilst listening to people kick off because their benefits had been stopped. Or I had to do some condescending, pseudo bullshit course about my mindset. Reed even wrote a book on it:
https://www.reed.co.uk/career-advice/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/Put-Your-Mindset-To-Work-James-Reed.jpg
Luckily I got a job (after about 2-3 months) but I got really miserable and depressed there. Fantastic mindset to put people in when they're trying to find work |

Actually Im 54 this may well be my last job, so it could well be signing on till I drop dead, having never signed on before does anyone know what this entails? is it true you get hung out to dry if youve spent all your adult life working? ive just got the car on finance which is a tad worrying.
im not liking this situation one little bit. |
I wish I'd been told the following when I was made redundant:
a) You need to sign on the minute you are officially made redundant. JSA is not back paid.
b) Go though GOV.uk website. Start the benefits process there. You'll be given an interview at a local office. There's a bit of form filling in initially.
c) No-one, and I mean no-one will ever tell you what your entitied to. This will be become more and more apparent when you sit in the job center listening to the other spacktards complaining about what benefits they get.
d) The job center if full of spacktards. Ignore them. Keep Positive.
e) Go into every Jobcenter interview with an up to date CV and a list of jobs & companies you are in the process of approaching. I can assure you, they treat you more of a human if you look like you have the nous to get a job under your own steam.
f) Benefits above and beyond JSA are "means tested". You get more benefits if you don't have savings. At the moment, with redundancy, you have savings. Should you "spend" all your savings before assessment, I guess you'll be more likely to get greater help from the government. Make of that what you will.
g) You've probably spent a lot of your life working & you've probably paid a great deal of tax and national insurance. Don't feel morally confused about getting some of that back when work dries up. I didn't. I've paid plenty in tax over the years, so I had no problem in applying for benefits through a lean period of work.
h) Good luck. You'll need it. That said, I've always been a believer that the more effort you put into something, the "luckier" you tend to be.
Apols for the "TEF Standard" response:
TL:DR- Gov.Uk. Apply immediately. Don't have savings. |

Best of luck, but I would echo the advice to claim for anything and everything right away. They really won't backdate anything. It doesn't mean that you're giving up, it's money for job seekers. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

Well the speculative CV has got me an interview at the end of next week.
I really hope something comes of it.
My last day at this job is the 25th and a new job rather than a sign on date would be nice. ____________________ Do not presume that I am male. |
