Are there any decent heated socks that work?

Not looking to beat sub zero temperatures on the motorway, they would actually be for the wife who suffers from poor circulation and would like a little warmth, probably an hour at most.

Naturally these would need to be battery powered.

There's quite a few on the BayOfEs.
No idea if they work or not though.

Haven't used them myself but Gerbing do them

https://gerbing.co.uk/products/12v-product-range/socks-shoes.html?alias=heated-socks

Not cheap but should be good quality if the rest of their gear is anything to go by, just ordered a pair of gloves

No idea about socsks, sorry. What about boot warmers though? I've only ever used them for ski boots … but they make a big difference to a morning's skiing so for an hour's riding maybe it's worth a look.

Sorry no not for bike use, but as it's winter and lots of you commute figured I'd ask here.

For example she really suffered on bonfire night when the display was delayed, as soon as we were in the house and heat got to the, she was fine.

Seen for Gerbing stuff but wanted people's opinion generally, iirc they are about £60 which is a bit pricey to try.

I'd recommend decent boots instead.

Very happy with my recently purchased ones (RST Adventure-II) are very comfy and warm, bought them on the way to the BCF bbq as realised on the way my old ones had a massive hole in the sole and my gear selector was poking though Laughing

Feet warm and dry (in bog standard sport socks) and I use them every day Thumbs Up

ah sorry, my mistake for assuming a post in 'general bike chat' was referring to bike use.

Missed that line on your post, perhaps post in random bants or similar

Dry is a massive booster for feet heat. I have some goretex timberlands that are pretty decent for keeping me dry (they leaked once when I spent six hours walking through long we grass).

Boots also allow thick socks which is usually enough for me.

Not tried heated socks but I don't see why they wouldn't make a difference both on and off the bike!

Keis do heated insoles and can be bought from sportsbikeshop.co.uk

they're set up for powering from the bike's battery but you can get battery packs.

Personally, in winter, I just wear hiking boots and thick socks which tend to have me fine with the temperature while the wife is complaining of cold feet, nice chunky soles insulate from the ground, however neither of us have circulation problems.

OP: this is a real shame, you are just too early to benefit for something I am putting together on Fundrazr:

Feet Jackets™ - The road ahead is toasty!

I can post details of my Fundrazr account and maybe you could contribute. I hope to have a working prototype in the coming decades.

Posted in here as I know heated gear has been discussed, whilst this isn't bike related it's bike gear I was thinking of.

I'd post in a gear section but alas we lack one.

It was the Maplin ones I was thinking of, but they've stopped them, hoped someone could recommend similar.

Try some Heat Holder socks https://heatholders.co.uk/

They were the only thing I found that could keep my feet warm while spending long freezing hours stood on the doors of this countries finest drinking establishments.

Ugg boots and two of those little gel packs you stick in hot water.

Sorted!

Buy her a pair of Skee Tex thermal wellies, she'll never complain about cold feet again.

I've never tried socks, but I experimented with heated insoles.

Riding down the M5 in biblical rain was like riding in a hot bath!

The downside is that the insoles tended to have a short shelf life, and the conections and wires had only slighter longer lifetimes.

The problem with feet is that they are always being walked on and they tend to destroy in sort order anything that would work for hands.

It probably sounds silly, but try some neoprene socks. Sealskinz are probably the best.

I wear them in fairly draughty summer boots (RST R-16's, as I can't wear winter ones for various reasons), and even in -2 as it was the other morning, my feet are toasty warm. Unless you are walking for miles, you shouldn't get any chafing from a dry sock. As a bonus, you won't cane through batteries at a rate of knots.

The Maplin type ones run on 2x AA's, and chew them up in about an hour.

It's just an alternative for the OP to consider, it may work for them, it may not. It's not particularly expensive to find out, unless they opt for the full-fat Sealskinz.

Circulation is everything when it comes to legs especially the lower leg.
It's the long blood line from the heart and can cause high blood presure.

Don't wear anything that restricts blood flow.

I know a guy who uses the Gerbing heated insoles in a microlight and has good things to say about them. He also uses the gloves which, having tried myself, are awesome. Expensive though.

I just wear a pair of TCX Infinity Goretex boots with a pair of hiking socks and have never had an issue with cold feet, nor have they ever let the slightest bit of water in. Great boots, but expensive again.
