My helmet is an x-lite x702 GT. I'm not sure if it comes with an ACU gold sticker when bought in the UK, but mine doesn't have one as I bought it in Merkel-land.
ACU says on its website that I could send the helmet to them 'for inspection', they would 'test' it, and send me my lid back with the sticker. This would cost me £ 15 + shipping + the hassle of being helmetless for a while.

My questions are:
Has anyone done this? How long did it take to get the helmet back?

Methinks this is almost a scam. They cannot test the helmet (which would mean damaging it measuring shock absorption etc) so all they can do is inspect it to make sure ... of what?

From page 90 of their handbook:
Quote:

Exceptionally, helmets may be individually
approved, (often after painting etc.) They can be
mailed for approval and the affixing of a relevant
sticker. They should be sent to:
ACU, ACU House, Wood Street, Rugby,
Warwickshire CV21 2YX. Tel: 01788 566400
A fee of £15.00 should also be enclosed
which covers return post and packing charges

Of course it's still cheaper than buying a new helmet... Rolling Eyes

You used to be able to get them on eBay, but they seem to have stopped this.

Why do you want one unless you're racing?

Personally I've never seenanyone checking for ACU gold stickers on a trackday. Wink Provided it's in decent condition I'd be stunned if anyone even noticed.

Alternatively just buy a cheap gold labelled helmet off of Ebay, the seller listed as numberworth is actually the clearance arm of Fowlers of Bristol, was doing gold labelled Duchinni helmets for £18 with next day delivery! I have one, good helmet!

No one will check at a track day unless you are trying to access the circuit wearing a bucket on your head.

So instead of simply posting you an ACU gold sticker which you could stick on any old hat, they actually want to see the helmet in question and attach the sticker themselves. And they want £15 to inspect, carefully pack the bulky item and return it to you. The bastards!

The world's smallest violin player, just for you!

What's happened, ACU gold stickers are no longer available on eBay or Amazon? Eh?

Not on eBay, Amazon isn't a bad shout.

I would get in touch with the uk importers, don't say you bought it from germany

the stickers cost £2 each, so manufacturers don't fit them on all the helmets they make due to expense and not everyone will go on the track so it would be a waste

I've got a spare Nitro Aikido if you get desperate. I could even try removing the sticker if you really want Smile

Thanks. Is there an official rulebook or something? As in, does it say anywhere that you need this bloody sticker or not? I'd really like to avoid the risk of some cranky dude on the track stopping me just because he has had a bad day!

Still out there but not cheap.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Acu-helmet-sticker-/222313835902?hash=item33c2efed7e:g:QTIAAOSwux5YKH6S

Or spend less on a lid that's already got one.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Uber-Imola-Full-Face-Motorcycle-Motorbike-Scooter-Crash-Helmet-ACU-Gold-/371750599095?var=&hash=item568e0ff9b7:m:mym7H55lftgBrBacHbxPKkw

My last Shark (Speed R) had (a wonky) one, latest Shark (Spartan Carbon) does not. I may have a chat to the Shark
reps at the bike show to see if they will send one out. Worth an ask.

I think we did have our lids checked for ACU stickers with 100% Trackdays ... in 2003!
Don't recall having had them checked since and that company closed down a long time ago.

Racing - yes, definitely. Trackdays - no. Have done trackdays recently with No Limits, Focused Events and MSV.

You could always ring up the trackday organiser. But I'd just go along as everyone else does and not worry about it.

How do you find the Spartan Carbon? May I ask what your size is, and how much the lid weighs?
My xlite is great but fits tight : I had to get an xl whereas I am a L with most other brands. The xl uses a bigger shell, so it's heavier.

Yours seems like a great helmet; the only thing that doesn't convince me is the venting. Vents seem somewhat limited compared to other helmets - specifically it seems there are no vents at the back.
Did you find the black carbon boils your brain in the few hot days we had last summer?

Thanks a lot!

You may not need at a track-day but you certainly will at any ACU sanctioned competition event.

Think I've had them not-checked at ACU sanctioned enduro and trials. Always checked at ACU sanctioned tarmac track racing.

It could be that it doesn't have the Double D fastener which seems to be a UK spec thing

I bought a HJC IS-17 from Motoblouz and it's the Euro spec one, with the micometric ratchet buckle

It does have a double D ring. I would never ever ever ever ever wear a helmet without it.

Double D ring isn't needed to get the ACU Gold sticker.

Lol, because a helmet that clips together is unsafe... he says, riding a bike that is exploding petrol beneath your groin and has the possibility to have you removed from the human race with some spastic hand motions.

Yep, definitely unsafe to use anything other than a DD. Laughing
