Never been.

Does it cost?
Never considered it, cos I am not a fan of winter and tend to hibernate and sulk throughout.

Please go, and get your wife to write a report.
I'd be interested to know, but I'm not prepared to cough up Laughing

i had a look at the website and it appears to be a mixture of paid for attractions along with market stalls and so forth.

i selected 3 (out of 6) attractions to get an idea of costs.
The Magical Ice Kingdom
Bar Ice
Cirque Berserk
and the cost came out at £130 odd for the two of us.
that doesn't include any food/drink or shopping.

to be frank id rather just go for a decent walk around regents park and then have a plate of Nando's on way home.

May have changed but when I was in London 3 years ago it was free.

And it was absolutely rubbish.

It was shoulder-to-shoulder, one-slow-step-at-a-time crowded in almost the entire thing. The rides are bog standard funfair rides which cost about a tenner to use. The food is overpriced 'themed fair' food, and the crowds are beyond abundant. I mean seriously if you don't like crowds, or you don't like situations where you're absolutely dictated by the speed of the bumbling slowest member in a group of at least a thousand people, do not go.

However. It may depend on the date you choose. My brother went last year and said it was totally fine.

When I went it had just opened, so pre-Christmas sort of time. When my brother went it was around new year I think.

My advice: Don't bother. For general Christmas festivity in London I'd rather mope around the main busy/tourist spots with Christmas lights and decorations up, then finish in a good cosy warm pub somewhere.

It's a deeply depressing Hipster Winter Wonderland. It's hard work getting out and about there, there's a big queue for everything, a lot of overpriced rubbish and kids running around everywhere. Transport arrangements are also insufficient, unless you enjoy the overcrowded underground and overground or bus system (some people do). This event is for London yuppies, hipsters and wannabes, and there are plenty of drunk and out of control youth doing their own thing there as well. Don't subject your loved ones to the effort and discomfort. They'll just put on a brave face, unless they're under the age of 7.

Yeah, it would have been. Didn't start until 2006. You were just kicking around in Hyde Park with an imaginary woman.

There are much, much better ways to spend 130 quids.

My suggestion would be a great Mexican meal, lots of beer, then mojitos before falling into a fuggy, farty, spoony stupor.

Merry Xmas

I wouldn't spend £130 on it.

Went a couple of times a few years back. It was fairly dull to be honest. Very busy, lots of stalls selling "Christmas" tat and a load of fairground rides. Mehhhhh.

£130? Cheap flight and hotel on the continent and go to a real Christmas market.

OK, might cost you a bit more than that but it's a much better experience.

My thoughts exactly.
Cologne Xmas market is rather a good one.

Ok....So the wife was adamant she wanted to go take a look.
She reasoned that we don't *have* to go into any of the paid events if its shit.

So its free to get in.
It is massive, really really big, easy a couple of hours of walking around.
lots of stalls selling all sorts of wares.
lots of bars/food places.
lots of rides (i counted two waltzes and 2 full sized dodgems)

overall it has a slick and professional feel about it.
unlike lots of theme parks where everything looks a bit old and tacky, every here looked crisp and well kept.
Some of the rides looked like their owners took a lot of pride in them and were interesting just to look at.

the only paid for attraction we went to was the ice kingdom at £10 each. we both thought it was pretty impressive, all the carvings where very good and there was a little ice castle / slide for children to climb over. not the biggest attraction but still we liked it.

We ate in a big old marque type thing which had bavarial-village.com wrote on everything, We had sausage and potatoes fried with bacon along with a couple of pints.

there was untold security staff and lots of cleaners keeping the place tidy.

If you like the whole Christmas thing and accept that your going to spend a few quid then id recomend this for a day out in London.
I suspect in the evening its going to make a very good alternative place to get drunk and a good venue for a Xmas works party maybe.

Prices.....
I'm half and half on this one.
a pint of beer is £5.50 in the big Bavarian tent.
I tend to get a bit funny when a pint is much more than £3.
Food was around £10 each which while not cheap wasn't too bad.
Rides are all token based with a token costing £1 and rides being anywhere from 2 - 6 tokens.

So your going to spend a few quid however you look at it.
However it is central London and an event for Xmas.

So I would definitely go again next year and id make sure my wallet was sufficiently tooled for the day out.

£5 a pint isn't rare in London so £5.50p at somewhere like that isn't surprising.

I would rather cryogenically freeze my shit and hammer it into my eye sockets that go to one of these places, regardless of where it is. Winter is shit and so is Christmas. Fuck both of them.

Plus, in 1998 he was 7.

So less wife, more "overly friendly uncle, who threatened to kill him if he told anyone".

I spose "Wife" has an easier ring to it.
