I like where this is going, but they really need to be under 160kg wet. Less than that would be better.
If Kawasaki have a go at making their Z250SL a bit more useful then they may be in with a chance of doing it, but until then I guess I'll persevere with my 20HP CB250. I like the way it not only has a proper rack for strapping stuff to (or bolting a box to) but also has a nice wide pillion seat area I can strap a dry bag to. So many modern bikes are missing these features ____________________ 1994 CB250, 1984 CBX250RS-E, 1989 K100RS, 1995 TRX850, 2016 Z250SL |

Kawasaki's 300cc Versys seems better, shame like as I like the V Stroms. ____________________ I want your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.

Only Suzuki is making upright style onroad 250 right now.
Others were making racey ones only till now.
I hope many start making tourer-ish 250s from now on.
Hopefully MT-25 tracer too.

One of a good 250 tourer I liked was Honda Xelvis. I didn't like KLE250 Anhero for its design.

Tourer need decent body size, so it will be heavy for 250. But some user want 250 as tourer. 250 is a big king bike in China. So Suzuki designs them so that they look like big bikes. ____________________ 2020 Touring Serow 250

Pretty much established that one of the best proper "adventure" bnikes you can get is a TTR250.
Could never be regarded as powerful but you can lift one out of a ditch. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

I wish I was clever enough to come up with a definition
I've got mine because the seating is upright (bad back), they have some weather protection (not great but better than a naked), they're tall enough to see over stuff (I like a gentle 'potter' around the countryside occasionally) and slightly more agile around town than a proper tourer (although I'm sure there are exceptions).
I did think long and hard about swapping the Transalp for an SM or Trail bike but ended up getting the 1000 Multistrada as well. ____________________ The above comment isn't necessarily the truth and anyone that says it is, is only correct if it's the truth or they're bigger than me. |

I'd take the Honley any day over that, I reckon. I was seriously weighing one up at the Motorcycle Live a couple of years ago, the thing that put me off was the rusty nuts and bolts all over it, while it was on display!
Although having said that, when I went to Goodwood this year, the new Africa Twins were rusty as well. So, good work all round!
I want to get my TTR 250 sorted, I'm probably just going to pay a man to do it now, I no longer have the time or space to strip it down, and more importantly, put it back together again. The idea being that that will become my UK tourer, with a bit of fettling, because, with the exception of the MT5, it's my favourite bike. ____________________ Current:1991 Honda MT50 (Soon to be a H100/MTX/MT5 hybrid), 1976 Honda Cub C70, 2005 Honda Varadero 125, 1993 Yamaha TTR250 Open Enduro , 2010 Road Legal Stomp YX140, 1994 Honda CRM 250 MK III, 1999 Cagiva Mito 125, 1992 Honda CB400 Super Four, Stomp T4 230, 1984 Honda H100s, 2009 Sym XS125K
