Was on my way home last night (in freezing temperatures) and I was aware that I was smelling that hot smell at traffic lights (if you know what I mean) but I carried on regardless.
A few miles down the road it just cut out while driving along and wouldn't start for 5 minutes.
I gingerly rode the rest of the way home though it seemed to be running fine.
It's the furthest I've been on it since the rebuild 370 ish miles ago and I was going quite quickly though in the freezing temperatures could it really have overheated?
If so then it's probably something like the mixture.
Any ideas much appreciated! ____________________ Shaft drives rule. |

because its your first bigger ride since the rebuild I would suggest it could be product burn off you are smelling rather than anything wrong .
Check everything over and take it out again, if the smell has dissipated then don't worry.
have you checked your oil level as this is important on an air cooled bike.. ____________________ https://domharnessphotography.webs.com |

The gearbox oil isn't all that important on a 2-stroke, as long as there is some in. The 2-stroke oil is critical as is the fuel air mix.
Best thing to do is check the sparkplug electrode colour. Brown=good, white or scorched=bad. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

The smell's not really a burning smell or anything. Hard to describe I suppose.
I'll check the plug but will also check the mixture.
2t oil level's fine - I check that frequently.
Cheers. ____________________ Shaft drives rule. |
