Lock seized. Not frozen though the deep cold has maybe stiffened any gunk in the lock. What's the best way to fix this?

Cheers.

Plenty of WD40/GT85 into the lock and keep working the key in and out wiping it off, then a dribble of a light oil like 3 in 1.

I'm loathe to pump dw40 into the lock as I've heard it just adds to the gunk eventually.

Another vote for fire. Thumbs Up

Graphite lube is the text book answer for what to use rather than WD40.

Use some spray lubricant and work it till it's free, then clean out with electrical cleaner, followed by a quick spray of Silicon grease.

Cleaning does seem to be the way to go. I'm thinking compressed air on top of an alchohol detergent mix.

Squirt alcohol down it. Pure isopropanol for choice, although I imagine you could pour your lunch in.

WD-40 isn't an awful choice for this application. It's mostly solvent with some light oil. Internets confirms.

I'm going to try de-icer fluid in then blast with some compressed air.

As you like but stiffened gunk isn't always the end of the world...

Graphite powder the bastard. Razz

*Cheap, proper way. If you use grease/oil, it will bind dust and dirt and will seize again, or won't.

Bags of good ideas to free off the lock and when you've done it give it a damn' good dose of carburetter/choke cleaner it'll blow the oil/grease/shit out of it then tip as much as you can of lock graphite (ebay) in it and it'll be dry and can't freeze up. Locks ought never be lubricated with liquids as they'll hold the crap and gum up. Try it, Kazawaki take filler caps are bastards for jamming, graphite stops it happening. Good stuff and cheap !.
