lol.... was it cheap at least?

edit:

I once bought a bmw 540i sport, 2000 model, while pissed on ebay. It was lush! 74k on the clock, centre silencers removed and genuine Alpina 18" rims to boot.

It had 2 weeks MOT remaining, won it for £2500, cost me nearly a grand 2 weeks later getting it through the MOT Laughing and that was doing all the work myself except tyre fitting.

It needed:

*Full set of tyres (a front and rear had bulges, so stuck a new set on)
*Drop links all round (a front and rear were knackered)
*Front discs and pads OEM
*Rear pads and handbrake shoes
*Chafed fuel line, where the tool before me had fitted 275 rear tyres on a rim designed for 265 width max, I fitted the correct tyres and they no longer runed the inside liner of the arch.
*Some other stuff I can't remember

It all worked out pretty much ok though, when I sold it a year later with an extra 12k miles I got £3400 for it.

Hopefully your pissed purchase will work out just as well Thumbs Up

You were done mate. Your car did not have rear drop
Links or handbrake shoes. If you fitted these yourself, you're deluded.

From someone who knows older Beemer inside out, including a 2000 740i Sport. Wink

I just checked the gov website:

Reason(s) for failure
Rear Brake pad(s) less than 1.5 mm thick (3.5.1g)
Nearside Rear Anti-roll bar linkage has excessive play in a pin/bush (2.4.G.2)
Front brake disc in such a condition that it is seriously weakened (3.5.1i)
Offside Front Anti-roll bar linkage ball joint dust cover excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the ingress of dirt (2.4.G.2)
Offside Rear Tyre has a bulge, caused by separation or partial failure of its structure (4.1.D.1b)
Nearside Front Tyre has a bulge, caused by separation or partial failure of its structure (4.1.D.1b)
Nearside Rear Fuel pipe excessively chafed (7.2.2)
Parking brake: efficiency below requirements (3.7.B.7)

Anti roll bar links, my bad, not drop links, you can have that one, it was several years ago.

And yes, I did do it myself.

edit:

https://s19.postimg.org/yc87y8bwj/IMAG0150.jpg

Only photo I can find with the rear discs off, but they look like handbrake shoes/pads to me beneath all that dust

Here's the bike the OP bought: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1998-YAMAHA-YZF-600-R-THUNDERCAT-DAMAGED-SPARES-OR-REPAIR-NO-RESERVE-9943-/302139299190?hash=item4658e7d576%3Ag%3A7MkAAOSwo4pYKzdv&nma=true&si=Lq6P6PqvUeQKTLlzFOzGWabahwE%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I wonder what, if anything, needs fixing as it doesn't look too terrible in the photos.

Looks to be a bargain to be fair, just cosmetic on the left side. Ignore it and ride with some luck!

It's got a current MOT, so tax it, insure it, ride it. Cosmetics can be fixed if/wen you spot a (pissed) bargain on ebay.

It does look like there's nothing much wrong with it but I'd have thought that the seller would have said if it's just cosmetic damage on the LHS rather than only saying it's a cat C as they'd have got more money for it that way.

Hope for the best and let us know what the story is when you pick it up. Mr. Green

It looks fairly superficial, although I would check the left hand bar as it looks like it might not be straight. Also, this may not be the first time it has been down the road, as the paintwork is non-standard and decals are missing.

If it is as it looks though, that looks like a decent buy. Thumbs Up

Surrey MC Salvage, I've looked at a few bikes they had for sale when I was after a 125 as they're fairly local to me, and they never put any descriptions up. You either have to go on the pictures or go take a look, which is a PITA as they don't open weekends

It was delivered early this morning I didn't have time to have a proper look had a look this evening in the garage light and it does only appear cosmetic on the left. The only thing that doesn't work is the rear left hand indicator and that's only the bulb.

Put some fuel in it and it fired up no problem that end can is fucking loud though.

As I don't have insurance on it yet I could only run it up my 1.2 mile private drive Razz and it ran fine and stopped fine.
I will insure it tomorrow then go out for a test run.

Checked the brake fluid and it looks like new.

Stuck this Thundercat in for its MOT this morning straight through no advisories done over 3k miles on it so far trouble free.
Might be on this one for the BBQ.

Thought i'd update this thread as the bike has gone now.
I enjoyed riding the bike and I got offered a 2001 Thundercat with very low mileage in excellent condition so i bought it which meant the Cat C bike had to go.

In the two and a half years I had it I did 8300 miles with no issues at all I went all round Wales and Scotland it also did the commuting in London for six months.
I got back exactly what I paid for it and I honestly reckon I could have got more if i'd have wanted to.

Of course I had to shell out for consumables tyres oil, filters etc but for me these need to be bought anyway so don't count.
