Someone watch Black Sails, so we can rave about it together like we did when Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back, came out.

It's really frackin good stuff.

Watched all Black Sails since the first pilot, it's a fucking amazing show. Completely underrated with how good the characters are and how well they develop.

Compare with the Walking Dead and you wouldn't give a shit if Rick got shot in the head tomorrow. But if your favourite pirate character took a blade, you lose your shit.

Next season is the last and I'm glad for that, don't string it out in to a pile of pants, make it end where it should and do it well, like Breaking Bad Smile

P.s. I was genuinely gutted when you know who died, was pure thinking about it for 24 hours like, WHYYYYY Laughing

I got my Brother watching it, he phones me up with such lines as: "WTF! xxxx killed xxxx over xxxx and now xxxx is pissed. This is going to get messy, I hope they sort it out" and "Why the fuck is this not on ITV?, it's brilliant!"

The JJ Abrams connection drew me into it and it shows with the production values. It makes Poldark look like an amateur dramatics production.

As soon as a UK based network picks this shit up, it's going to explode.

I'm currently watching Halt and Catch Fire

I'm slightly too young and the wrong side of the pond to get all of the cultural references, but I was well into computers in 1983 all the same, even if I was still at middle school.

Season 1 is ace, and incorporates a lot of the true-anecdotes from the period. I found it flagged a bit in season 2 when it went a bit more drama than tech. Still worth a watch. Trivia, Mackenzie Davis' casting and look is influenced by Apple's seminal 1984 advert.

I've been watching The Expanse on Netflix. Meh. Can't care about the characters, therefore don't care about the plot. They cast an Iranian as an Indian (exact same thing, right?) and it's venting my gas that they can't decide whether they're doing hard science or space opera. The scenes when the directors and actors remember that they're meant to be in zero or low G or vacuum are jarring since most of the time they don't bother. Like, it's nice that you put in a CGI bird gently fluttering in Ceres's 0.029g, but that just draws attention to fact that everything else is behaving like it's 1g. I could suspend my disbelief if you didn't keep reminding me why I shouldn't. Thumbs Down

Black Mirror - seems bigger budget than the previous stuff Charlie Brooker has done, and I thought it was superb. Some of them could have been made into feature length movies they're that good.

My only slight criticism's that it felt like some of the episodes were made by different production companies (maybe they were?), and if you're familiar with his previous work then it's more of the same; a dystopian technological future some of which he's explored before.

Still well worth a watch tho' Thumbs Up

The only reason to dislike Black Mirror is if you are one of those people who liked to use the word 'dystopian', and then smugly smile to yourself because thickos didn't know what you meant.

I was one of those people. Charlie Brooker has fucked up that tiny part of my life forever. My Facebook friends (they aren't friends) were all posting "oh dystopian this" and "dystopian that" after watching it.

My Facebook friends (they aren't friends) are twats.

But, yeh, Black Mirror is all kinds of excellent.

Jeez Deadwood, I forgot about that, might give it a rewatch.
Ian McShane was great in that.

Things have moved on a lot since those days, I'm not sure it would feature in my top 15 Box Sets, but it's worth a watch if you've not seen it.

Deadwood, like Firefly, has just left me hanging.

I thought at least it'd all wrap up in the last episode - looks like I'll have to wait for the film.

Just finished watching The Returned on Netflix and thought it was really good.

First series, second series, American or French version?

... I really liked the first (French) series, by the second it was a bit samey, I also got sick of everyone staring at each-other and all the one word dialogue. On the plus side there were boobies Thumbs Up

Van Helsing, 2016- series by SyFy, on Netflix.

Into every generation a Van Helsing is born: one girl in all the world, a chosen one. She alone will wield the strength and skill to fight the vampires, demons- actually, no just the vampires. But the talky vampires who vaant to suuck your blaahd, and the feral vampires who are totally not just a mob of fast zombies.

I want to like this more than it really deserves. It aspires to be more than it is, which is another SyFy quota filler raking in dem fat British Columbia film monies. Amanda Tapping directs some episodes, I think she's just been living in the woods there since Stargate.

The production values are random, with the first episode in particular featuring some really sub par choreography and editing - it does get a bit better.

The theme is an undeadapocalypse re-hash that fares very badly compared to Walking Dead or even Z Nation, tries to cram far too much into 13 episodes, and the writing is weak, with the plot being driven by expediency rather than following from the characters and situations. Not only do the protagonists "split-up to cover more ground" several times, but they're not even shot for doing so by Chekhov's gun.

On the other hand, Kelly Overton has a kind of grubby MILF-next-door-who-might-want-to-consider-a-nose-job-and-some-collagen-I'm-just-saying-it-couldn't-hurt appeal, and Christopher Heyerdahl gives an outstanding performance that feels like it's in a much better production. The rest of the cast are pretty meh and the vampires are blaah blah blaaah.

Like so many multi-director, 20+ producer affairs, it can't pick a feel and settle down to it. At times it aspires to chill or shock, but it's not got the courage of its convictions. There's one surprisingly well played tender scene, but the rest of the relationships are mostly shouting and keeping secrets. Sure, the women aren't obviously wearing make-up, but nobody's hair gets manky.

It could have been better than it is, but it's not. Swing and a partial connect. Only for completists.

Well I've been watching "Berlin Station"!

It's a series about a, present day, CIA station in, err, Berlin, funnily enough!
If you liked "Spooks" you'd probably like this, there's a lot more intrigue than "Spooks", there are also fewer guns and car chases.
I've watched the 8 episodes available, out of 10, it's a one story series, which will, presumably, resolve itself in the final 2 episodes.

Look here for more info-:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5191110/

Well worth a watch if you like double agents, double dealing and an actual story!
9 outta 10, IMO!
