to stop the cold getting to my fingers.
Its feking arctic atm. The last 2 days have been horrendous on the motorway and after an hour+ at 70 or so my hands have been so cold that using the controls was actually a challenge

i have muffs. Tucano Urbano ones.. the newer design. They worked really well when the ambient temp was above 3 deg or so. Its -2/-3 when i leave in the morning.

I don't want a car. Been there. Spent all my money on bikes now anyway

I'd rather not get heated grips. I like the current grips and in exp they heated the palms and not the fingers

Heated gloves - not sure i can really afford to spend a lot on gloves as mine are fine. I have silk undergloves to try out today anyway

So what do i do? Is there another way to keep my hands from freezing?

I've heard heated grips and muffs are the best of a shitty situation.

Don't go out Wink Laughing

You could rig up a hot air feed from the back of the engine to the muff's.

Just remember if using inner gloves, you need them to be a loose fit in your gloves or you are wasting your time.
They need a air gap to work.

You don't say what gloves you are wearing, as in temps like now and speed, you still need some decent gloves, as you don't mention about the rest of you..... If your core starts getting cold, then it slows down blood flow to the extremities and they start to feel a lot colder.

Personally go heated Thumbs Up

I'm using these:
https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/191443?r=GS&gclid=CjwKEAiAjvrBBRDxm_nRusW3q1QSJAAzRI1tPQT3ugdhg1HDDI9UxHsVwf-BSMbhTZwTf6qM0G2GFxoCBYvw_wcB

which have, until now, been great. These are my "winter" gloves.. and arent that old.

My core isn't really getting cold. My arms sort of do though and i CAN feel its cold, even through all the layers, but i never get to the point i start shivering. My gear on the commute is as follows:

Boots: Sidi Adventure Goretex boots. These are great

Legs: thermal lined work trousers. Ebay waterproof textiles. Goretex ex army windproof over trousers

Upper body:
2 t shirts. then a long sleeved work shirt, then a jumper, followed by a weise textile jacket and an RST windproof/waterproof over jacket.
2 x neck scarf thingies.

I've got the same problem, muffs at motorway speeds are still horrible.

My heated grips should be turning up by this weekend and I can tell you from experience that muffs and heated grips are the ultimate solution.

Regarding the only heating the palm comment, if you're on the motorway then you are usually just sitting there without needing to brake or clutch so your fingers can be on the grips too.
I've only found muffs to leave the fingers cold when having to clutch loads and then my left fingers get a little colder than the right ones - no big deal really Thumbs Up

I can't see that you can do much more if you don't want heated grips or heated gloves. By the looks of it the cheaper (and non-bike specific) gloves are crap, and the proper ones are £100 and more. If it were me I'd fork out for grips or gloves or both. You may have already found that when your hands start to warm up again (after being properly frozen) it's the worst pain in the world.

Sod that every day for the sake of £50

If your body is cold it'll cut circulation to your extremities. No gloves will sort that out. Don't just concentrate on gloves, make sure all of you is warm.

I've got Blades and they worked well with just heated grips. Yes the backs of my hand got chilly but it was tolerable. Heated grips are the way to go, I thought they were worth every penny.

hmm.. its possible my arms/shoulders are getting cold enough that my hands, being the last in the chain, are feeling the worst of it.
I might need to put TWO jumpers on under the two jackets i already wear Laughing

Anybody used heated under gloves? I seen some fairly cheap on ebay (£30)

Something like these might help take some wind blast off the hands.

I would say add hand guards to the mix as well.

I managed an entire winter wearing my summer gloves with just hand guards. Taking the wind chill off the fingers makes a big difference. Combo them up with muffs and your gloves and you should be sorted. Thumbs Up

I use heated hand grips and big hand guards under Tucano muffs (new type) and on particularly 'orrible mornings like today (-4C) my hands are still bloody parky but tolerable. I do just wear my vented summer gloves with a silk liner glove, winter gloves can fuck off they're unwieldy and still end up with nippy fingertips.

I looked at heated liners too before the season started but decided the rather massive cost wasn't worth it, might aswell go in the car if I'm spending that much making biking just tolerable.

I find making sure I flex my hands as much as reasonably possible helps keep the warmer blood flowing.

I'd also thought about putting some form of stick-on fluffy minge material inside the muffs to help negate the cold airspace, I may yet do this if the right fluff becomes apparent....

Everyone seems to say this, they are fine at anything up to about 130, if you wanna go faster then fit actual plastic rather than floppy plastic guards.

I ran my Vara up and down the motorway throughout winter, at one point it was like -2 and I had no gloves because they were soaked from the night before and just set my grips to 1/5 and it was like I was in a car.

Tucano urbano, heated grips, decent base layers.

Failing that, just take the car. Thumbs Up

if you take out a ride mag subscription for like £30 they're giving away free oxford heated grips at the moment I believe.... pretty good deal and you can always take them off when it warms up a bit

Muffs + grips for me. These £2.16 pads actually work. No way would I do over an hour at motorway speeds without heating.

I don't know if you have the neoprene mitt muffs with the thumb or the plastic ones that cover the controls, but try and seal any gaps between the muffs and the bars. A cocoon of duct tape may not look pretty, but you're already out of the Cool Kids Gang just for muffing up.

i have these ones fitted:
https://www.infinitymotorcycles.com/product/tucano-urbano-heated-polyamide-hand-grip-covers/7365?utm_source=google&utm_medium=merch&utm_campaign=feed&gclid=CjwKEAiAjvrBBRDxm_nRusW3q1QSJAAzRI1tw1VkbEDQANpfDRaNVOa48Exx10JFsUV_smBQ-umSJxoCcqDw_wcB

Polyamide ones, apprently Thumbs Up

My lining gloves have arrived now so will try them out too. and based on the price of heated gloves.. and having to replace my gloves if i were to get heated under gloves.. i have gone for the cheaper option of heated grips (yes, yes, i said i didnt want to but it was just so feking cold this morning i dread to think what jan-mar is going to be like).
I hoping, muffs + grips + winter gloves + silk liners will ensure i get to work without my hands hurting.

Edit: Oh, and il wear an extra jumper.. and my rev'it goretex 'clava arrived today too. I've exhausted my christmas presents to myself budget now.

Heated grips definitely help with muffs also lever sleeves for clutch hand if you do a lot of filtering. You can get those Oxford hot grip things which wrap over your stock grips so no tricky installation required just don't forget to turn them off, alternatively I think Cream carbon do the same style of heated grips which run off rechargeable batteries instead.

Obviously not available for most bikes and I always poo pood heated seats till I got my bike which came with them. I presume it's all to do with core temperature but I have never felt painfully cold since I had this bike.

Maybe a heated jacket/waist coat would help you?
