Right before I get ripped (Im ready)

I managed to acquire a piaggio x8 relatively free so to speak.
Guy whom gave it to me mentioned drive belt as snapped when he was coming back from Sheffield and lives near me (Skipton)
Had to get recovered etc.

Mentioned also needs a Speedo cable (not really fussed about this ATM).

Getting bike tomorrow had a general look around today all electrics seem fine , fires up from cold nicely , lights horn work etc.
Tyres are new on it recently serviced few months back.

Not much online about this scooter , I presume it's a copy of a Honda I presume maybe but unsure hence I thought I'd pick the forums brains.

I was looking out for another Derbi Terra but so hard to get cheap.
Getting my full licence does not bother me as this is short distances 30 mole round trip mostly dual carriage ways .
And I need to be able to run as close to nothing as possible as my car is costing me a fortune.

Anyone know if a average Joe with a few tools could sort this (myself)
Anything to check tomorrow when it's here and tests.
Like I said it's cost me fuck all I gave him two mountain bikes and two netbooks I had lying spare in my garage.
Has a few months mot also but I'm in no rush ATM to get it on the road probs after chrimbo I'll throw some money at it.

Thanks chaps
.don't go to rough on the scooter 125 hahaha

Hi, and Welcome to the forum.

Can't answer your question specificaly, but to be honest, I'm not sure what it is, unless it's if you can change the drive belt yourself?

If that;s the case, yep, it's easy if you have the tools, and nothing special needed apart from the method of locking the crankshaft so you can remove the nut on the end of the shaft to remove the variator.

Have a look at https://49ccscoot.com/ site to do with anything scooter related. he explains how everything works on scoots, including the CVT, engine (two and four stroke), loads of stuff, including mods.

He has tested theories, done work like removing/replacing sheared exhaust studs, how to test compression, squish band, compression, leak tests, thread recovery,

www.maximuppets.co.uk or piaggio owners club will have info

and piaggio make there own engines what you have on it is a piaggio leader engine

its not a copy of anything and vespas gileras and aprillia all use the same reliable lump 14BHP when new

you wwill either need a impact wrench or a variator locking tool

as well as the belt you will need to clean all the bits out (they get everywere ) and will probably have to change the rollers

also dont be tempted to buy a cheap mallossi or polini belt buy a genuine piaggio one as they last and dont stretch

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
Starts great fires up nice takes a minute to idle properly.
Yes I read somewhere to stick with OEM belts Mitsubishi belts around 90 pounds , I won't go cheap on that.
All in all bargain

Sorry quick question
Could I fit belt and rollers if I bought the tool (which one be the better buy)
I have average Joe mechanical skilld
