Chaps,

Whilst the hornet sleeps under it's blanket on it's optimiser all tucked up, it's got me thinking.

.......

I want another bike. Owned the hornet since passing my test a long time ago, went 33bhp to 100bhp on it too, loved it for what it is, just it's lacking some character and good looks for me now. I feel I'm ready to move on I guess!

I've loved the look of daytona's for a good while and read nothing but good things about them, hoping you boys can add to this?

Any common faults to look for?

Servicing?

Ideally I want an 09+ plate for the quickshifter really - that noise!

I've found one in decent condition for a good price - because who sells a bike in December! Seems really honest, only downside would mean riding it home 2.5+ hours in Winter.. for a fairweather fairy like me, that's stomach churning.. Wink

Oh yeah, insurance is being a royal PITA too - £150 fully comp on the hornet... Daytona? £800 good sir. FFS!

Will be mashing comparison websites in the morning! I know it varies like mad between people but I'll have 5 years NCB in March, 23 years old - sound about right? I think I'd pay £600 if I can get it around that figure. Not with dirty MCE though.

Cheers Thumbs Up

Check you can get on with the race bike position. Have a decent test ride on one to get a feel for it. I didn't have a long enough test ride on my SV which I regret as I find it too leaning forward which gets uncomfy after 20 mins, I only test rode it around town for 5 mins. I'd absolutely love a Daytona myself but I know I wouldn't get on with the riding position Crying or Very sad

If you want the quickshifter make sure you get the 'R' model as the basic model doesn't come with it.

Oh really?

The bike I'm looking at is a 2011, and it says in the advert it has a quickshifter. There's no mention of it being the 'R' model though?

Very good point. I've sat on one and found it uncomfy. Laughing

But I think that's just because I've only ever ridden sit upright style bikes. Christ, I'm 23, if I can't get used to it now may aswell throw in the towel Laughing

I think it will feel awful for a good while and hopefully my body will adjust to it! I only use it for pleasure anyway really so with a bit of luck will be OK! Thumbs Up

Plenty of options for a quickshifter on the earlier model or a non-R model.
You'll pay a bit more for it on the earlier model, of course. On the non-R 09+ I believe basic ones can slot straight on.

The engine isn't particularly characterful (though compared to a hornet, probably is Smile ), but handling is reasonably lively.

As standard the Non-R version doesn't have a quickshifter, but it's possible it was added as an option by the first owner or indeed fitted aftermarket.

daytona R had a quick-shifter as standard, they are available as genuine accessories for standard models 09 and later, they're plug and play too so you can fit it at home yourself so the one you've seen probably has the accessory one fitted, personally I'd go for a 13 onwards model as the engine had a massive overhaul changing the bore and stroke to make it a better sports bike engine, the reg-rec problem on early ones was sorted by a recall, and the pre 13 models can be a pain if the exhaust butterfly valve sticks, but it can be chopped out by T3 and a servo eliminator fitted, also wheels need checking to make sure they're straight.

Nice one thanks guys.

Does anyone know if we have anyone on the forum that does bike delivery? Insured, etc?

Insurance is being a wankstain and it would probably be easier to get it delivered and wait 2 months for 5 years NCB.

Cheers. Thumbs Up

How much cheaper is it for 5 NCD. Surlely can't be cheaper than paying for bike delivery.

Have you run a quote to see how much cheaper it would be? Don't think this is going to be a cheap bike to insure

Fully comp seems to be pretty silly.

I can get TPFT for £430 with 5 NCB.

About £500 with 4, but that's irrelevant as I'm 10 months into a policy.

(If I change now I have to pay £280 to the end of my policy and it won't even come out the garage. A.k.a no point)

Rather have no hassle and get it delivered to be honest if it's cheap.

I think I'm getting the bike at a good price - it's winter! (haven't seen it yet - viewing in the week) which means delivery isn't a problem!

You could phone your insurance and see if they'll insure it for a day or Two, or try One of the insure upto a month polices.

I got mine done by UK race support.

The other downside of the non R version is no Slipper clutch as standard (though the newer ones bolt straight in).

The only issue I've had with mine was the CPS, if this goes it bricks the bike until replaced. Many people think you need to swap the stator at the same time (as triumph lists them as one part) but you can the the CPS on its own from Electrexworld.

Thanks for the advice chaps.

I went to view the bike and it was literally mint in every way.

Bar the first MOT advisories which is the only thing making me weary. (Brake pads and alignment it failed on - in 4/5000 miles?)

All clean now though.

I think it's a relatively fair price, (£4500) and he isn't willing to go much below it. (Up for 4950)

A dealer would have it at 5500 all day long.

Just timing is shite and I would get it delivered, am I mad for not test riding it?

Who knows.

Instinct says it's good, was a nice enough guy showed me it all in detail, on paddock stand to show the quickshifter etc, had models of bikes, genuine reason for sale, saw his newly born baby lol.

Ahhhhh decisions...

If I don't get it I guarantee a similar one won't come for 5 months Laughing

Oh and insurance is being slightly more reasonable now, confused say £460 full comp.

Look at it this way, if you get it ... insure it .... and don't ride it until spring then you've already got 5 months no claims on it sorted.

Equally, you'll be paying for insurance on a bike you're not riding.

But then if you're not riding it, you can't crash it so .....

Equally ... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Daytona-675-/172426033257?hash=item2825647869:g:ayMAAOSw2x1XKwdX

Is also stunning and not £4500 ....

But its red Sick Only reason for red is to track it or drip it in carbon.

Otherwise gold/yellow or black all the way.

Daytonas are the most boner worthy looking sportsbikes imo

Would have one in a shot if it wasn't for the fact I'm 6ft5in and would look like a gorilla humping a football.

Oh, and the fact the I have the riding skills of a circus clown so it would be totally wasted on me.

But seriously lovely looking bikes, V. Jell Thumbs Up

At 21 you can get an A Motorcycle Licence, allowing you to ride any motorcycle or scooter of any size or power. There are two ways to qualify for an A Motorcycle Licence:

One, if you have held an A2 Motorcycle Licence for 2 years, you can take another practical test.

If you haven’t held an A2 licence for two years and if you are aged 24 or over, you can take the Direct Access route by completing CBT, Theory tests and a practical test.

You are then allowed to ride any motorbike or scooter without L plates and to carry a passenger.

Little bit, yes.

I tried a CBR600F and couldn't get on with the position at all. That's far less leany-forwards than a Daytona.

But I'm a geezer, and as you say, if not now, then when?
