Pure rumour but I heard that some of the cheaper brands can contain higher levels of ethanol.
Not a problem as such but some pre '96 bikes have componants in the fuel system that can be adversely affected (fuel lines, filters etc).
In terms of your bike and its running. A CG is in such a low state of tune, it's immaterial, any petrol for sale in the UK will be fine in it. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

All brands of Petrol may be from the same refinery outlet, but I would expect different additives to be added to different brands. Back in the 1960s, my Norton 650 SS , with a high compression ratio pistons, would pink" like hell on any brand of petrol except BP five star, so not all petrols were the same then. Although the Honda CG 125 is a low state of tune engine, the compression ratio is quite high [9to1 ?] It will run quite satisfactorily on standard unleaded. It seems to start and run better on super unleaded, and gets better MPG. As regards ethanol in petrol, the pump should be labelled E5 or E10, meaning 5% or 10% ethanol in each case. As stated, ethanol can be bad news for fuel systems. It still seems odd that unbranded fuel is sold. How would you feel if your cigarette packet did not carry a brand name? Oh, wait, Plain Packaging... What next, unbranded beer? ____________________ Enjoy yourself, its later than you think |

I always thought there was only a few refinerys in the country
I know most supermarkets sell a known brand fuel but don't advertise it as such
so where do these additives get added to the fuel
do they just chuck it in the tanker as its leaving the depot ____________________ gilera runner vxr200 (chavped)

The IRA used to sell a lot of fuel in the 80's and 90's in eire. Especially red diesel stolen from farms with the dye removed.
It wouldn't surprise me if some of the unbranded fuel stations, especially kind of "pop up" ones are being run by criminal gangs. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Just add water to your tank, shake it about, let it settle then drain off the water/ethanol mix

I did see marginally higher fuel economy (actual numbers writ down and everything over a few tanks worth) with "premium" versus "regular" in a Seat Cordoba. But that was one car, doing one type of stop-start driving, probably with a knock sensor (anyone know of a bike that has one?), maybe 15 years ago.
I wouldn't infer anything from it. I do know that my Nazi Tractor[1] and Enfield[2] both claim to be fine running on low octane rock-juice. I honestly can't see what benefit I'd get from putting the expensive stuff in either of them.
The only thing that would give me pause is putting E10 in, and I'd prefer to avoid E-anything if possible.
