Alright so nearing the 600 mile service.

I know, I've had it a month and barely ridden it yeyeye.

I bought it 100 odd fcking miles away and I'm now having a crisis about where to take it to get it serviced because I haven't made friends with any Yamaha dealerships, except the place I bought this bike from (BUT ITS 100+ MILES AWAY Sad)

Anyone know a sound place to take it to? Yamaha dealership preferably.

Was looking at West London Yamaha initially, recent reviews seem good, when I visited them they were very "salesy" but not bad mannered in the slightest so think I might go there.

Asking for recommendations so that I can put myself at less of a risk of being shafted.

Thanks.

Inb4 its ez its just an oil change: I know. Not asking about servicing it myself, I can do that. I just want to build service history on this bike.

Put 100 miles on it. Get to know it better. Have it serviced, ride 100 miles back, knowing it better again. Make friends with local Yamaha dealer.

Only other one I can think of (that's still open) is Metropolis in Vauxhall. Someone told me they took their Vespa 125 there for a service and was charged £300 Laughing

Get a loan bike.

"We don't do them" wouldn't cut it for me. Premium machine and premium monies on servicing I'd want the best, ie: loan bike while mine's being serviced.

Phone the place you like up and see what they say.

You could DIY it and provide a service history in the form of word document print outs in the process, same as a dealer does.

If it's the warrenty you're looking at keeping up then sure go Yamaha stealer otherwise I'd say trusted indepdant or DIY.

What about Bahnstomer BMW? 50 approx miles from London. BaronVonGrumbkle's always in there with whatever bike he's got. Mainly because I think his partner Fagan owns it but seems happy enough. Phone em up?

Is the first service not still free? Well labour wise, you just pay for the parts. Obviously though this only applies via the actual dealer that sold you the bike.

but as Paddy says DIY it!

Dealer would charge £120 for a valve clearance check/adjustment and £9.99 oil

if had taken my bike to the dealer to be inline with the warranty for servicing i would have spent so far £400 in 1 year

by doing it my self i have spent £59 in 1 year on home servicing plus i know it has been done properly and my valve clearances have actually been done!

Valve clearence on my grom takes 10 mins max

Bearing in mind your bike is a 2016 R6 according to your sig........ i would still do my own servicing which would cost £30 for motul 5100 semi synthetic oil and then £10 for the oil filter

Woodford Motorcycles.

Good bunch and decent service. Chickenstrip used to work in there too, and I've visited many times.

Yeah Woodford motorcycles has been recommended a bunch of times by different people.

Probably go with them, then.

I am planning to get my YBR serviced from there in a month's time (usually I would go to independent or DIY with a friend but I want to keep a service history on this one as I want to get rid of it within a year).

They quoted me £80 for a full service (labour I believe). Is this reasonable? Isn't it just a spark plug and oil? What else do I need done or is that all they include..

Depends how confident you are doing the work yourself in regards to if that's a price worth paying. Eighty pound, I'd want clarification if that's just labour or if that includes spark plug, oil and so on. Truth is most of it is just paying for their time and overheads, DIY would be: 1 litre of 10w40, 1 spark plug, clean the brake front and back, lube cables (clutch + brake), footrests and whatever else there is to do. Save yourself a lot of monies by doing it yourself and probably learn a thing or two in the process, again depends how confident you are.

Last two services I had on the Arrow 125 cost: (1) £69.79 and (2) £71.41, allow me to explain:

(1) Mainly labour costs because had a fault with the rev counter so I assume they road tested increasing time and cost. Other than that it was just oil and workshop consumables paid for but mainly labour.

(2) Oil, spark plug and brake fluid change.. not that I asked for it mind but whatever. Also had a problem with the switchgear so got labour went up.

So yeah £60-70 I'd say. The fact it's a chinese 125 doesn't make a difference because I didn't DIY it, still a 125 with the same jobs needing doing. Their website advertises prices for 125 services from £60.

Tackle this one with a dealer service and get some tools for christmas.

Woodford motorcycles are a joke haha, or at least the guy on the phone is. "We don't recommend K&N filters cause Yamaha spends millions developing their filters so there's no point putting on a K&N, I mean the Air filter makes sense bla bla bla.." and wouldn't shut up about how wrong I was for buying an aftermarket one.

Fuck off mate I bought it cause it has the wrench-nob on it and I don't have to buy a fucking stupid tool to get it off. Have you seen where the oil filter is on this bastard bike?

"not worth the extra money" - WHAT A POUND?? Very Happy???

And then he goes "First service will take a good couple hours cause we like to go over the bike in detail." Mate. It can't take longer than an hour. Nowhere else has quoted over an hour.

Fuck those lot, trying to grab money for parts & longing out the service time to charge more.

Try Infinity Clapham like Colin mentioned they've been pretty helpful to me in the past.

I take it your'e talking about a K&N oil filter? IIRC You should stick with Yamaha's own filters for now to maintain warranty then once it's over switch otherwise they might try using it against you if something goes wrong (pretty unlikely to go wrong though)

If you're already considering West London you could look a teeny bit further and check out my local place, Brian Gray's Powerbiking in High Wycombe.

They switched from Honda to Yamaha about 10 years ago. Decent bunch. Family business.

And the roads between there and Oxford are top fun (maybe slightly less so in December), but worth a blast anyway.

Dunno why woodford were so stinky about it.

Fagan doesn't own Bahnstormer. BvG was cosy with them long before he set up 44T with Fagan.

Southern Cross if they're still going? Used to do Aprilia stuff, but myself and Titz have both had work done by them and they're decent.

The others I called are also authorised/premier/official Yamaha dealerships and had no problem with it what-so-ever. I've also never had this problem fitting a K&N to the Ninja at the official Kawasaki dealership I bought the bike from in Watford. They even ordered the part in for me.

Think it was just the guy on the phone who wanted to charge out the arse for servicing as if I were clueless about it. Probably thought he saw an opportunity to aggressively up-sell to a noob. I mean a couple hours on the first service? Having a laugh Laughing Laughing

Ninja 300 = kid's bike. Or girl's. Either way, ripe for being rinsed via some Teflonian ramble about needing your grungle nipples re-flagellated..

I could be wrong but I think Infinity Motorcycles Clapham (and other branches) are a Yamaha dealership.

I've had a bit of work done and had no issues with them, though I wouldn't go so far as recommending as it's only been small work.

Just a thought if you were after an alternative.

As I'm likely in the market for another Yamaha soon (stupid van driver - will update crash thread soon) I may have to pop out to a few and have a butchers.
