They are partially auctions, in a few months when I save up money (Apprentices don't get too much) I am hoping I can grab some sort of bargain.

Yeah, I know Copart are. I meant physically trekking to them and whacking your hand up numerous times. I've been to the local one a few times, had a few bikes, but it's a ballache, and usually bloody cold, or rammed to the brim with old men that don't know how to wash. I'd rather take a punt on a well-described Cat C or better and get it delivered.

Would be nice to see a couple I don't know about.

Practically for a Cat A or B the insurance company take the bike in full, sell it to a breaker and they are legally obliged to fulfill these requirements.

You won't/shouldn't be given the option to buy it back (certainly with Cat A).

"Legally", there's no such thing as A/B/C/D. There's written off, repairable, and written off, non-repairable.

If an underwriter informs the DVLA that they've written off a vehicle as non-repairable, then the DVLA won't issue a V5C for it.

Even that's just the DVLA making up rules off their own back, as usual.

Please do feel free to cite the statute that creates any offence regarding any category of written-off vehicle.

The authorised breaker is contracturally obliged to follow these procedures for Cat A or B, if not they're in breach of the contract they have which allows them to accept and dispose of Cat A and B vehicles.

I believe that a contract is a legal instrument. Business law, not criminal law of course.

Well the ABI and the insurers really, they make the rules and classifications up I believe (certainly they adhere to those guidelines). There can't be any consequences really as it's a bit of a moot point as you won't (shouldn't) have access to the salvage to put it back into circulation.
